Mayor Lurie is wrong on Prop I. You should vote YES.

Voters passed Prop I in 2020 to fund affordable housing. City Hall swept the money into the General Fund for three years, then tried to cut the tax in half in the middle of a housing crisis. They only shelved it because they didn’t have the votes.

Now the Mayor is calling Prop I a “slush fund.” The fund would be run by the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development. His own office. With yearly audits on every dollar. If he doesn’t trust his own office to spend housing money on housing, that’s a him problem. 🫖

He declared a “rent emergency” with no actualemergency powers and no rent freeze. Meanwhile New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani froze rents for a million tenants. SF got a few modest bills and a press release.

Here’s what Prop I actually does: -About $120M a year for affordable housing, social housing, saving rent-controlled buildings, and keeping people in their homes -Paid for by an existing tax on property sales over $10M, so your taxes don’t go up -Yearly audits so we see where every dollar goes -City Hall can’t cut it without coming back to voters

Rents are up over 25% in a year. Evictions are on pace for a 10-year high. 17,000 affordable homes are approved and sitting unfunded. If it’s really an emergency, keep the promise voters already made.

The new, largest corporate landlord in the country is here.

Vivmark Residential — a corporate titan owning over 180,000 units across the country — was formed on August 17th from the merger of two large landlords, Equity Residential and AvalonBay Communities.

This mega landlord will have a major impact on housing market across the country and wield enormous political power nationally through lobbying and electioneering. As a major opponent of rent control and other tenant regulations, Vivmark Residential will leverage its considerable resources to fight attempts to strengthen tenant protections across the country.

Another day, another alarming warning that adding more turf to our park will only lead to dangerous and miserable outcomes for users and the community. We are desperately pleading to @sfrecpark @sfgiants @chyannechensf and the rest of the SF Board of Supervisors to PLEASE use real grass in the renovation. We support the renovation, we just do not want more plastic and less trees. We can have a beautiful new park with improved baseball fields, while ALSO keeping real grass and protecting our beautiful park.
