You don’t need us to remind you of the devastation and disruption still being felt in the western part of our state, but you CAN raise some pints and join us in a monthlong mission of support! In place of our typical visiting brewery this November, we’re hosting WNC Benefit Month— and through the power of community & beer, together we can send some much-needed assistance to some small businesses out in Appalachia that need help rebuilding, surviving, and taking care of their crews ♄ Each week we’ll send $1 from each pour of a WNC draft to a different small business or nonprofit, starting this week with our friends and neighbors @botanistandbarrel, makers of tasty ciders and natural wines who also run a really cool taproom in the heart of Downtown Asheville. Loss of revenue is a real thing especially around the holidays, so drink lots of pints this week, share this post, and let’s help make sure we’re all drinking handmade local ciders for a long time to come As extra incentive @woodennickelfarms is getting in on this action too, and they’ll be donating $2 from each sale of our chalkboard taco special(gringo tacos with farm-raised beef, what what!). And not to be outdone, @kims_bakeshop_wnp has whipped up a massive batch of Skillet Donut Stout whookies, and each whookie we sell this month will kick a $1 into the virtual tip jar too đŸȘ Many grateful thanks to our forever homies @burialbeer + @dssolvr for sending us lots of delicious beers to keep the taps at both pubs flowing all month; supporting their awesome brands is hugely important to us right now too. The more these taps flow the more dollars will flow back to WNC, and that’s what this is all about đŸ’Ș Drinking beer and eating tacos is awfully hard work y’all, but we know our extended Nickel Fam can multitask with the best of them! Beer was my introduction to a life and career I could have never imagined existed. As I finish up what may very well be my last beer festival, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and humility for this journey. A lot of people took chances on me. It gave me a new found respect for craft beverages and the role it plays in my life. It allowed me to share stories and imbibe with people I may never have met otherwise. It provided creative outlets and challenged me to never be stagnant. It reignited my love for curating experiences, made me a better bartender, sent me around the globe in search of myself, provided new coastlines, endless education, and inspired me to explore wine, cider, and spirit production. It brought me friendships, unconditional love, and many nasty (but needed) reality checks. It gave me purpose and a reason to get out of bed on days when it felt unbearable. It saved my life. If you've made it this far, I challenge you to find something that brings you absolute joy, I hope you find your people, but mostly-I hope you continue to find yourself. I say 'hasta luego' to a love that will always be a part of me, and 'howdy' to a piece I've longed to see again. Here's to another decade of sharing gastronomy, passion, and beverages with you all. So excited to see what's on the horizon. Thank you for existing.

đŸ”„ THE PORTAL TO HELL HAS SHUT đŸ”„ Our 4th Annual Four Feet to Hell Hot Dog Eating Contest was an all-out, jaw-dropping showdown of guts, glory, and unstoppable appetites. A big thank you to @chopshopbutchery, @neworiginbrewing, @eulogyavl, @burialbeer, @thegoldenpineapplebar, @the_orange_peel, @thewhalesouthslope, @level256arcade, @flouravl, and @boyhowdyburgers for their steadfast support in turning this intense, glizzy-gobbling spectacle into a reality! With your help, we were able to raise an astounding amount of donations for @manna_foodbank! At the end of the battle, there could be only one true champion, and that honor was seized ONCE AGAIN by our returning and now reigning FOUR FEET to HELL CHAMPION, AARON YBARRA @sweetchill3pepper! With relentless determination and awe-inspiring skill, he devoured the competition and secured his place once again in hotdog eating history and claimed the first GLIZZY CROWN. A big hellful cheers to our 2024 Four Feet to Hell Champion! And, we can’t forget the fearless efforts of our runner-up and former 2021 FFth Champ, Josh Przywara @warrior_5692! Both Aaron and Josh are back on the WALL OF FLAMES, but this time they enter as members of the “8 FEET CLUB!” A special club for those who have beat the Hell Clock twice! Hats off to the rest of our fierce contenders who tackled the challenge head-on! Your boldness and insatiable hunger were truly something else, turning this contest into a wild ride. Every single one of you deserves a hard-earned champion’s salute! We want to give a special shout-out to @avlnightdogs for their amazing hotdog pop-up at the event, everyone relished every single bite! We are immensely grateful to everyone who joined us for this fantastic event. L.E.G.S. Session Hazy IPA is here! We absolutely know what it means? BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK IT MEANS?! We hadn’t made a Session IPA in quite some time, we’ve been looking for the perfect excuse to revisit the style, and the heat of the Summer when you really need to slam a few cold ones in succession seemed PERFECTLY APPROPRIATE. An allday crusher that has a little bit of the best things: Fruity, dank, hazy, juicy, and ultimate crushability. Mashed with a medley of @riverbendmalt 2-Row and @proximity.malt Wheat, alongside a hefty dose of Flaked Oats. Hopped aggressively throughout the whirlpool and multiple dry-hops with a phenomenal trio of Oregon-grown Comet, Michigan-grown Crystal, and Citra Lupomax. Fermented with our House IPA yeast for the juicy treatment, spunded for natural carb and bountiful mouthfeel, blah blah blah. Made specifically for drinking many pints over many nights of shows. You already KNOW. A super balanced lil’ Session IPA slopped right up with the olfactory goodness of fresh-AF Tangerines, a bowl of Oats and dried Apricot chunks soaked in old-school Tang, and juuuuust a hint of dankness that definitely reminds you of the parking lot before an STS9 show. Don’t forget to leave a comment below with what you think this name stands for! And just to reiterate that we definitely know what it means, we wouldn’t just name a beer with an acronym without knowing what the name is.. that would be silly Gary, just like wearing a tiny cowboy hat kind of silly and we wouldn’t do that either. Available on draft and in cans Today 7/31 in AVL and 8/2 in DRM.

“Goin’ Down the Road, Feeling Cold” is our newest Cold IPA, brought to you in celebration of @thewhalesouthslope opening on the South Slope in Asheville next week! What the fuck is the difference between Cold IPA, IPL, and West Coast Pilsner, you ask? WELL, LEMME TELL YA! The way we took it, a Cold IPA is essentially an IPA fermented with Lager yeast, and with very low bitterness, but high in Malt character and new-school-fruity Hop character
and NOT LAGERED, just served fresh to preserve some of that Yeast character. A West Coast Pilsner, however, would be lower in Malt character and higher in bitterness and WOULD BE Lagered, and an IPL would be somewhere in between the two, but obviously Lagered for maximum briteness. Or so we think. The differences are minute, honestly, but we’re here to keep plugging away until we can all agree on the nomenclature! Chime in if you think you’ve got some clarity on this issue! Mashed with 100% @riverbendmalt, comprised of Chesapeake Pils and a higher proportion than usual of Chit Malt. Hopped very generously in the Kettle and Whirlpool with Michigan Cascade, and to a lower target IBU than we’re used to. Fermented low and slow with our House Lager strain and spunded for natural carbonation. Dry Hopped with a blend of Michigan Centennial and Pacific Sunrise for equal parts dank, citrus, and bright fruit! Not Lagered, served fresh. We experience someone telling us that we don’t know what a Cold IPA is, that undeniable feeling of accomplishment after opening a new bar in a time when you keep being told “Aren’t there enough beer bars and breweries in Asheville already?”, cold beers with good pals, fruity Orange Rinds in a freshly-scooped bread bowl filled with Wildflowers, and some nice resinous-pine character. Smooth, fruity, bright, and refreshing! Available now in AVL, early next week in Durham! Cans and draft, baby! Keep those eyes peeled for the new Whale location’s opening, y’all! See ya there!
