Real life footage of me and “my team” from the Spring (also known as my sibling who can’t read this lol and @deathtodari) making an unboxing video. We ultimately did unbox the books on Take 2 🎬 So much of the book making is also finding your team 🥰

Swipe to see the real unboxing (but not really) but also so many thanks to the team @triohousepress for sending these over! What a gift it has been to hold the book ❤️ With the next box, I’ll make a good reel unboxing video so please PRE-ORDER the book NOW if you haven’t already 🌹

Event Update and Mission Statement from Kanishka

This event would not be possible without @rio._.o.t & Kyla <3
Who rallied the school and the clubs craash and yours truly chai coffee lit.

We began the event with a lecture from @ajwsaria on Black/Colored/Feminist struggle in Netherlands. @dorianonifer the Librarian presented a wonderful presentation about the life and works of Audre Lorde that are housed in our Hunter College Library(link in bio).

We read our mission statement, parts of which are here-

Jazz has functioned as a way to survive, as Glissant, who taught at CUNY Grad, said “A music of injured people who have escaped the abyss, and carry within them the abyss’ dimension”. We must remember then that we fill this abyss with radical joy and refusal to be sold as bleating victims. We stand in opposition, we carry this horrifying joy in the face of immense crimes.
We channel this energy to survive.
Glissant also said, “Jazz is valid for everybody not just Black people, because it is a music of distraught memory.”
We honor our Black Radical Elders through whose writings we thrive.
We honor our Colonized Kin across the globe with whom we must organize.

Poetry begins with feeling, and where “language does not yet exist, it is our poetry which helps to fashion it." writes Audre Lorde.
Poetry spoken here is our daydream, consciously stitched in union inside the brutalist building that represents a lot of horrors but many more dreams and flights. We, through feeling the conversations between jazz and poetry, orient ourselves towards a language aimed at action, at preservation of our thoughts and sustenance for our future critical work that begins now. Again. Poetry is a speech act which music decorates; it moves it through the air into our souls.

We did with what we do best curated poetry, music and art with minimal cringe.

2025 held grief, growth, and gratitude. I said goodbye, I showed up for those who show up for me, but most importantly, I showed up for myself. I celebrated milestones surrounded by love. Every moment shaped me, and I’ll carry it all forward. #2025recap #grief #newyear #friendship
