“This is the first event I’ve ever been to where I didn’t feel the need to drink alcohol.”
- Debatable attendee

I couldn't stop smiling when I heard that.

This was just an idea I had, I spoke it into existence with my close friends a few months ago and now, here we are…

45 people took a chance on an idea and helped turn it into reality.

Speed debating. 8 different conversation topics with 8 different people. No phones, no AI. Just you and your thoughts. That's all it was.

No sponsors. No handouts. No shortcuts.

Made for the community, by the community. And I think that’s what makes @debatable.uk special to me. We can organise the space. We can create the questions. We can try to give people a reason to show up.

But at the end of the day, it's the people who come that make the event what it is. We can't hide behind a DJ blasting music, alcohol, overpriced food or influencers. We just have to trust that if we put curious people in a room, human nature will do its thing.

And in a world of increasing division, distrust, hate speech, AI slop and social media polarisation, there's something I find immensely beautiful about trusting people to be people.

I'm a huge believer in following your passion. Debatable has been challenging at times, but I've enjoyed every part of it. From designing the questions, creating the social media content, and organising the event itself, I’ve learnt so much.

And I couldn't have done it alone. A huge, huge, huge thank you to @ashinishashidaran
When I started thinking about building Debatable, there was only one person I had in mind that I wanted to build it with. Genuinely grateful to have you as my co-founder.

Also, a huge thank you to @smv_x.x, our Community Wellbeing Lead, for helping ensure the event ran smoothly and that everyone felt comfortable.

And to all the volunteers who helped make the event possible: you know who you are, and I genuinely appreciate every one of you.

And if you've made it this far...

Maybe I should give you a little spoiler about what's next👀

We've heard your feedback....

SPEED DEBATING II.
