The surveillance industry behaves like any market under competition. Voluntary frameworks like the UN Guiding Principles carry zero consequences for companies, which is exactly why they get cited so often. The Cybercrime Convention offers a more malicious approach. It locks states into binding cross-border data sharing.

๐Ÿ“… Monday, 29 June 2026 โœบ 3:30 - 5:00 PM ICT Bangkok time
๐Ÿ“ LIVE on Manushyaโ€™s Facebook and YouTube

Governments across Southeast Asia are using cybersecurity as cover to surveil critics, police borders, and protect the interests of those in power. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณ Now, with the UN Cybercrime Treaty moving forward, these repressive practices risk gaining a dangerous legal veneer.

โœŠ Join Manushya Foundation and human rights advocates from the ASEAN Regional Coalition to #StopDigitalDictatorship for case studies from Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Rohingya in exile, and a discussion of what civil society can do about it.
