International SALOON Meeting during the preview days of Manifesta 16 Ruhr✨

Despite the extreme heat—and with several pre-openings already behind us—we gathered on Sunday for a guided tour with Manifesta curator Leonie Herweg, who co-curated the two Essen churches, St. Gertrud and St. Marien, together with René Block.

Leonie gave us wonderful insights into the exhibition and the featured works, including pieces by Ayşe Erkmen and Donya Nasseri. Thank you, dear Leonie, for taking so much time with us and for the inspiring and in-depth conversation about Manifesta and its vision.

After the tour, we cooled down and recharged at Capobianco, the lovely Italian restaurant just around the corner, before spontaneously heading to St. Marien to experience Mira Mann's sound performance.

It was a truly wonderful day, and we were delighted to meet and connect with inspiring colleagues from other SALOON chapters. Thank you all for making it so special!

Warm welcome to our group exhibition in crclr House, Rollbergstraße 28, Berlin.

Ways of Worldmaking, Opening Friday, March 27, 7 PM, Exhibition March 28–29, 13-20 PM

Every world has a beginning somewhere. In a symbol, a story, a Big Bang. In a game mechanic, a protest, a map on which what does not yet exist is drawn or which erases what does exist.

“Ways of Worldmaking” unfolds across three levels of world-making: Nelson Goodman’s philosophical argument that reality is always constructed through systems of symbols, never given but always first created. In which countless worlds exist in parallel. Then the speculative tradition of worldbuilding, from science fiction to game design, in which fiction becomes a laboratory for alternative lifeworlds. And “worlding” as a political and ecological practice. The insistence, from decolonial and human perspectives, that worlds are not only created but also destroyed, contested, and challenged.

/EN/ – A retrospective that leaves a lasting impression.
The artworks in the 'constellations' exhibition at CRCLR House were visually impressive and told profound stories.
Jens Isensee drew us into the world of the Anthropocene with his mixed reality installation, providing an unforgettable experience. Tom Meier's kinetic sound installation, “RIP”, highlighted the pure power of the material. Deborah Uhde's “Phantom Pond” was an evocative cross-media piece that made us think.
Through their work, these artists demonstrated that art transcends mere aesthetics. It reflects our time and makes powerful statements.

What questions did these pieces raise for you? Let's talk about it! 💬

🔊Glad to show my new work "RIP" at "Konstellationen" with Jens Isensee and Deborah Uhde after 7 months of developing and building time.
RIP is a kinetic and sound installation, containing of an autonomous apparatus which rips a piece of fabric in slow and ever new movements. The resulting sound can be heard as a melody.

"Novocene"

Mixed Reality Installation | Quest 3, cardboard sculpture, 5x5m
Jens Isensee, 2025

Novocene is a mixed reality experience unfolding an interactive narrative about the Anthropocene, the current geological era, entirely dominated and shaped by humans. Accordingly, the polar ice masses in this interactive video installation will melt at some point and the climate crisis will cause the analog exhibition environment to sink under a virtually rising sea level.

"RIP"

Installation | u.a. Schritt-Motoren, Stoff
Tom Meier, 2025
