Thank you for all the support, wisdom, time, effort, resources that you have given to these fights against Big Tech. We have not lost. We have held the line and we have demanded that we are worthy of protecting. Land and human centered policy is more than just protecting property values. It's about declaring that all people depend on the land and all people are worthy of healthy environments.
We can do this together!

JUSTICIA FOR WILBUR RAFAEL GARCES PEREZ AHORA! This man, a human being, a family man and a WORKING man with no criminal history has legal rights to be here and was still violated by the lawlessness of ICE.
How much more human violations can we endure in this “first world” country before we say enough is enough! We are not free until we are all free!

From the Zionist terrorism and destruction of Palestine and Lebanon, to the kidnapping and murder in Venezuela, launching yet another unprovoked war in Iran, the starvation policy of the blockade on Cuba and to the fascist ICE concentration camp being built here in San Antonio - the genocidal nature of capitalism and imperialism is revealing itself for all to see.

Oppressed Revolutionaries for Worker Power understands all of these fronts (and many more) as points of the struggle for liberation from exploitation and oppression for all peoples.

We call for everyone to join us on Saturday, October 10 for a protest and march marking three years of US/Israeli genocide against Palestine for daring to stand up to colonial apartheid!

The connections between Zionist genocide, the rule of financial, oil and tech corporations, the struggle to make ends meet, the demonization of immigrants, the crack down on resistance and the instability of climate change and ecological destruction have never been more clear. In San Antonio and across the world, we are collectively coming to the understanding that the evils we see are interconnected, our many demands are shared and the path forward is through unity and solidarity!

Be there, be loud and leave the corporate party politics of division behind!

BREAKING: The Online News Association has named The Xylom and partner newsrooms as a winner of an Online Journalism Award, which honors excellence in digital journalism around the world.

‘All Hell Breaks Loose’: How Big Oil Ruined a Small Texas Town, a three-part series published in collaboration with Floodlight, Drilled, and Deceleration, won the Excellence in Science Reporting (Small/Medium Newsroom) category.

One of the judges, @andrewsaaven, wrote, "Micronewsrooms keep my faith in the future of journalism despite the year of extreme hardships and job cuts in the industry. [...]

A story that touched my heart the most is the investigation that young reporter Alex Ip launched as a student into the impact of booming US crude oil exports on a small town in Texas and the lack of monitoring for toxic chemical risks.

He applied his empathy and environmental engineering degree to the story that ultimately outshined even some of the most decorated and biggest newsrooms in the US."

The Xylom is an independent, non-profit, worker-run news outlet with no corporate backers, two full-time staff, and a microscopic budget of $165,450. We need your help to fund more long-term investigative projects like this one.

If you value the public service journalism of our award-winning team, will you please support us to keep us going? Comment "OJA" for a link to make a tax-deductible gift.

I’m super honored and excited to have my art and essay on state terrorism and tyranny through ICE featured in Deceleration’s Summer 2026 Creative Review. There are worlds beyond number (to reference some of my favorite storytellers) and we get to bring them into existence with our actions.

We're excited to announce that @alexip718's series, ‘All Hell Breaks Loose’: How Big Oil Ruined a Small Texas Town, copublished with @drilledmedia @floodlightnews @deceleration_news, has been named an Online Journalism Awards finalist!

Unlike most OJA categories, we competed alongside news outlets with up to 250 employees for Excellence in Science Reporting. The Xylom, with only two full-time staff and a budget of $165,450, punched above its weight: some of our category's other finalists include ProPublica and Scientific American.

Winners will be announced next week in a virtual ceremony; congratulations to all finalists. Tap the link in the bio to learn more.

Degrowth isn’t about enforcing austerity or miring the world’s population in poverty for the sake of the climate.

Degrowth is instead is first and foremost about prioritizing people’s wellbeing, instead of prioritizing profit, and adopting policies that do just that.

This would mean abolishing private prisons in favor of avenues of restorative justice.

It would mean disbanding private health insurance and adopting universal healthcare.

It would mean outlawing speculative real estate and promoting social housing.

It would mean breaking up exploitative financial markets and moving money into public banks.

All of these policies would lower the GDP, lower the footprint of the economy, and improve our lives.

There are ways of doing all of these things and seeing a GDP that is decreasing while still ensuring that everyone has their needs met and that governments can still provide essential public services.

Political scientists and economists around the global who have bought into degrowth and post-growth are exploring these possibilities daily.

Part of it would also be finding ways to work less so that people have time for things that provide meaning and value in their lives: spending time with friends and family, volunteering with a community group, or simply engaging in a beloved pastime.

In the wealthy nations of the world, we’ve already got so much more than we need to get by, and producing more, consuming more, won’t solve any problems. Changing our priorities, however, will.

And if we don’t get over our selfish obsession with material possessions and an economic mindset of growth, then we have no hope of addressing the climate crisis.

The choice is a simple one: Either we mature and embrace a new economic paradigm, or we continue to condemn ourselves and future generations to increasingly severe catastrophes.

Can board games help people solve the climate crisis?

@matt.leacock and @ma.tteo.me seem to think so. It's the reason they co-created Daybreak, a cooperative board game all about climate change and its solutions.

The game with its plastic-free, FSC-certified paper packaging hit shelves in 2023, and quite a few scientists and climate educators have described it as being the most accurate tabletop representation of global warming out there.

But it's not just accurate, it's fun as hell.

When you play you're working with the other people around the table to reduce emissions, increase carbon sinks, and build resilience all while then pressures and consequences of climate change mount.

The stakes are high, and the challenges grand. But victory means the world.

If you've ever wondered whether you have what it takes to solve the climate crisis, give Daybreak a try.

Many of our communities are already short on water and short on funds to pay for local services, but data centers are demanding billions of gallons of water and tax breaks from local governments.

It’s time to demand change.

Join us -- in person or online -- for a week of action to share our concerns with lawmakers and learn from experts and grassroots leaders fighting Big Tech's sprawl in a community near you. It's free! Register at the link in our bio.

The monarch butterfly continues to see a decline in population in the United States while Mexico has seen an increase in population for the second year in a row.

Currently, the US ranks 134th on the Global Peace Index out of 163, and has a 5.7 out 10 score for Empowerment Rights according to the Human Rights Measurement. Since the 2025 election, marginalized communities of all kinds report facing more hatred, discrimination, violence, and isolation. But we will not be silenced or ignored or defeated.
