Introducing #Speculars, new podcast series by Institut Ramon Llull

The specular image refers to the reflection of one's own body in the mirror, the image of oneself which is simultaneously oneself and other.

In these series of podcasts by Institut Ramon Llull, we explore the field of speculative knowledge. Through a series of interviews and curated episodes by people linked to art, music, cinema, architecture and literature, our aim is to present various possible forms of organization and approach to the world.

Every guest has been invited to curate a program, to play with ideas, voice and sounds. Each chapter is the reality through the mirror of the other, they are mirror pairs and as such, two episodes unfold in their enantiomorphism.

I went to the beach. It is about a kilometer beautiful walk along the coast of the inlet. Once there, I stoped for a few minutes to take a look at my favorite house. It stands alone in a prairie on the woodland edge right before the beach. Back home I asked my mother if it was still inhabited. „Which house?“— she asked— „the Mermaide(rs) house?“. „Mermeiders?“ Apparently the family was nicknamed like this because of their exotic decision. Our village is in a fiord, so to live „outside“ closer to the sea, instead in the protected part of the coast, could only be explained because they were not entirely human. The old man just passed away, a month or so ago. He was near hundred and I loved the house because he covered the stone wall around his property with strawberry plants. Strawberry are very new here, so he probably thought that these beautiful red fruits were perfect decoration for the stones. The view in summer times was extraordinary, like something Warhol would be jealous of. The family was also named „os sirenos das fresas“ (the mermaids of the strawberries). Mermaid images generated by Disney do not account for what the village meant, so I have chosen some Japanese man-mermaids because I truly think they express what this in-between states feel in many parts of the world. The strawberries are still there, green, very beautiful. i took a picture for you as well.

Yesterday in my post on Josep Ponsatí I included an image that, actually, belongs to the 7th Congress of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), organised by the Agrupació de Disseny Industrial del Foment de les Arts Decoratives (ADI/FAD). This text I took from @macba_barcelona, an exhibition was made there about it in 2013. “The congress was held in Eivissa (Ibiza) from 14–16 October 1971. What might have been a conventional professional meeting became, in the Spanish context, an unprecedented event. For three days, what the ICSID did in Eivissa was not just an open congress where professionals and students could meet and debate; it was a point of convergence between design and the most experimental forms of art and architecture at the time in Spain.” There is an episode at Radio Web Macba on the congress. Anyhow, if you don’t know the radio of Macba you should!!
