Today we open Future of Yesterday at @de_pont_museum, an exhibition bringing together Estás Vendo Coisas (2016), One Hundred Steps (2020) and Future of Yesterday (2026) — works made across ten years and that depart from brega in Recife, traverse Irish and North African traditions and land on the Straight Edge hardcore in Germany. In this post, a few moments held in time, with gratitude to everyone who imagined these films with us.

Stunts!!!!

The Zakflip, 1993, full send!!

I’ll let Zak tell the story “I came up with the idea after doing the Mansfield Demo with Mat Hoffman in 1990 where he pulled the first flair, it got me thinking that a 540 flair was possible but I had to learn flips first! When I finally got the opportunity to learn flips I started messing with flipping and spinning (on a jump), I could do 180 flips no problem but getting the extra rotation was really hard and I never could get more than flip 270’s until I went too the jump at Crowhurst in Hastings. When I first jumped at Crowhurst I realised that this was THE jump i could do it on, I didn’t say anything to anyone there and just rode in to try it, the first one I rotated full 360 and landed then my back wheel slid out, the second attempt the same thing happened, on the third attempt I landed sideways and blew the spokes out of my back wheel and had the wind taken out of me as I landed on my ribs, this footage is on a rare video called WASTED II (Editor :Tried everything to obtain this footage) I vowed to pull the trick the very next weekend ! When I went back to Crowhurst it took me two attempts to pull the 360flip (zakflip) which was later documented by DIG magazine & Angus video.”

I spoke with a number of people that were there that day and all said what an amazing day/feeling it had.

I was thinking about it not many tricks have had sequences ran in two mags and on a mail order catalogue, I think that says it all really in terms of the magnitude of what he pulled off in that field that day.

Yet another example of Crowhursts immense impact.

1. Footage from Angus the @seventiesdistro filmed by @markrok1

2. Sequence ran in @digbmx issue 1 📸 by @deecelliott

3. The first attempt again from Angus video

4. Sequence ran in Ride US issue 12 from Crowhurst Scene Report by @markjnoble / @seventiesdistro mailshot sequence featuring that ‘Afro’

5. Zak & Dave Beverage, lifelong friends (Dave is the one congratulating Zak when he pulls it). We miss you Dave
