Meet five of the ten 2026 Nexus Fund awardees. Swipe to see their work ➡️

1. Montenez Lowery is a multidisciplinary artist and writer whose practice centers Black identity, memory, and loss through alternative photographic processes. His work interrogates colonial infrastructures and photography’s role in constructing Black identity. He has shown at Swan Coach House Gallery, Colorado Photographic Arts Center, and Somerset House in London.

2. Colleen Marie Casey is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and curator with over three decades of influence in the Atlanta arts community. Working in weaving, natural dyeing, and sculpture, they transform regional fibers and legacy materials into work that bridges traditional craft, Georgia’s wool producers, and the next generation of makers.

3. Isaac Ashmore is an Atlanta-based artist raised in Villa Rica, GA, whose practice disrupts the spiritual, historical, and political frameworks of American Exceptionalism. Drawing from his upbringing as a child of a preacher in the American South, his work functions as a public catalyst for comparative practices rooted in historical institutionalism and social disidentification.

4. Dionne Eleby & Jakari Sherman bring decades of stepping tradition into full-length concert works. Eleby is a performer and cultural ambassador who has brought step to over 30 countries. Sherman, considered the first modern choreographer of stepping, is a MacDowell Fellow and former Artistic Director of Step Afrika!

5. Mallory Rukhsana Nezam & Hannah S. Palmer are both rooted in Atlanta’s southside. Nezam is a culture-maker and civic artist whose cross-sector practice, Justice + Joy, builds new models of collaboration between artists and government. Palmer is a writer and artist whose 2024 book The Pool Is Closed: Segregation, Summertime, and the Search for a Place to Swim (LSU Press) uncovers hidden histories shaping life in the urban landscape.

Stay tuned for more on each artist’s Nexus project and more spotlights on our remaining 2026 awardees.

Our Road Home: Gallery As An Instrument is more than just a rotating assortment of exhibits. It’s about community, connection, and planting roots.

The okra pod signifies everything Our Road Home has to offer.

Yesterday, the @jkcreativ team planted okra at the entrance of the @freshartsorg office so that, together, we can all watch how the seeds we plant in the present, blossom over time.

We hope that as you come and see us throughout these next two months you are able to watch the growth with us!
