GRACIAS CHILLY!

Some personal news from El Sonido in the words of our beloved @deejaychilly:

“It’s with bittersweet excitement that I announce I’ll no longer be a regular co-host on El Sonido. These last fourteen years have brought me so much joy, and it’s been an honor and total blast creating the show and helping KEXP support Latin music and artists from around the world. I’ll still be working in music and will continue to work full-time at KEXP and as a DJ, but it’s time for me to try some more things and to fully pass on the torch to Albina and the next generation(s) of the El Sonido family. I can’t thank the artists, listeners, and everyone in the music scene enough for all the support and love throughout the last decade and a half, and I am so excited to see the community grow. Albina and KEXP are just getting started with Latin music and Spanish-language content, and I’m happy to be here to watch it flower. I’ll continue to tune in and support and, of course, never stop digging for the best music from Latin America, Spain, and across the globe.”

Our love in @albinacabrera’s words:

“El Sonido just turned 14 years on air at KEXP. Since its founding, DJ Chilly, who is also a talented audio producer, photographer, artist, and my family, have shared music from all corners of Latin America. The message reached so far that it led to showcases, Live on KEXP sessions, remote broadcasts throughout LATAM, festivals, and friends around the world. In 2016, we met while doing radio in Buenos Aires, and I joined the show as co-host in 2020 with the honor of being in charge of the Latin content for the radio station of my dreams. From there, and with many friends from every musical scene in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and the global diaspora, El Sonido became a home, a refuge for the sounds of today and tomorrow, never forgetting where we come from. This show has allowed us to create so much together. We will miss you un monton, Chilly. This is YOUR home.”

Tune in to El Sonido every Monday from 7-10 pm on KEXP.org. Follow the link in El Sonido’s bio to hear Chilly’s announcement.
