Another chapter closing. I spent so many weekends at this place with some of my favorite people, DJs, staff, and friends. We celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, breakups, promotions, girls’ nights out, guys’ nights out, and other countless nights. For 20 years, Havana’s wasn’t just a nightclub. It was part of Seattle’s nightlife fabric and part of so many people’s stories. When I retired from DJing clubs a few years ago, a part of me definitely disappeared. But I also got something back, more time with my two girls. Still, stepping away from the booth left a void that only DJs really understand. Havana’s was special. It gave me the opportunity to connect with complete strangers every weekend. After years behind the decks, you learned how to read a room. The tempo. It was a small room, and if you played the wrong song, the crowd wasn’t forgiving. You could literally watch people walk off the dance floor right in front of you. Consistency was always at the core of what made Havana’s work. You could show up on a Friday or Saturday night and know the music was going to deliver. I’m incredibly sad to see this chapter come to an end, but I’m equally proud of the team behind it. Thank you to every manager, bartender, bar back, security guard, door person, cocktail server and DJ who made Havana’s what it was. To everyone who ever walked through those doors, thank you. I hope somewhere in the blur of Seattle nightlife, Havana’s gave you a memory that still makes you smile. A special thank you to Quentin for having the vision to build something that lasted two decades and for giving me the opportunity to be part of it as an investor, partner and DJ. And of course, we love and miss Eli Baroh and Soul One. Tonight, I’ll be back on the decks one last time for the final sendoff. I’ll be taking requests too. Big Day! The Fuzzy Lounge Sessions album is out today! Go listen. (Link in bio or give it a search) we pressed vinyl too! This is a 90s inspired electronica record of which I wish more existed. I feel like we need more of these crossover electronic albums where we can have a chill listen at home or turn them up to move our bodies too. Albums that are not formulaic and feature live instruments and analog synths. Vibe and mojo for days. Music inspired by amazing artists like @kruder_dorfmeister @nightmaresonwax @thieverycorporation @massiveattackofficial This project has been a huge mission. Many of the demos for these songs started 5-10 years ago on my @ableton Push. In between other audio projects, I would pick them back up. At one point my youngest, Dylan, was like “This music doesn’t exist unless it’s on my phone. Don’t send me any more private @soundcloud links!” 😝 He was right. I took it to heart.
