Over the past couple of years, after graduating from my Master’s program, life has brought a lot of learning, growing, and navigating. From heartbreaks and not passing my licensing exam the first time, to new career opportunities and moments of questioning my purpose in this world—it hasn’t always been an easy journey.

Through it all, I leaned on my support system when I needed them most, and somewhere in the middle of all the chaos, God placed me exactly where I needed to be. 🤍

I found a job that I truly love and discovered a passion I didn’t know I had—helping adults navigate their own journeys toward healing and becoming the best versions of themselves. I passed my licensing exam, and shortly after, I was blessed with a promotion at my current company.

Now, I have my own office—a space where people can walk through the door, feel safe, be heard, and begin to heal. 🥹

Life looks so different than it did two years ago. There were moments when I questioned where I was going and whether I was on the right path, but looking back, I can see that every detour was leading me here.

I am right where I need to be—with my family, my partner, my friends, and a career that gives me purpose. 💗

So incredibly grateful for this season of life and excited for this new opportunity and everything that is still to come! 🫶🏽✨

Introducing to you. BLACK ETHER :

A stippled meditation on Black loc’d hair as form, energy, and spirit. Each dot holds time, care, and layered meaning which builds a story of identity, ancestry, and becoming. The locs extend beyond the body, moving into something atmospheric, something felt…reminding us that Black hair is not just aesthetic, it is spiritual, rooted, and alive.

Through shifts in density and openness, the piece mirrors the fluidity of Black existence from what is seen to what is carried. Black Ether invites you to slow down, to witness the intention, and to honor the depth, history, and power within every strand.

Prints are available! Check the link in my bio!

I’m Dee Kyles, counselor-educator and supervisor in training, creative, and mental health advocate. The way I show up and hold space in a counseling room is the way I create; grounded in a psychodynamic and humanistic, culturally responsive approach. I look to the past to make meaning of the present to empower the future for the culture of Black people and Black art.

My pieces hold what’s underneath; identity, memory, and the quiet spaces where Black stories live. Through stippling, I move slow and intentional. Each dot reflects layering, history, and presence…just like healing.

Stippling isn’t the only form of art that I create; however, all of my art is layered with multiple expressions of BLACK.

This is my way of exploring Black identity, spirituality, and expression as something alive and evolving.

My goal is always the same: to create space where we feel seen, understood, and empowered.
