28/05/26 - Around the start of the month my buddy Chris (@artfowler_) offered his ticket to Rosegarden Funeral Party so he could go and see a show from Catty, I didn't know anything about them but decided to take a random chance on them since I hadn't been booking many gigs at the time

When the day came I did feel a bit nervous since I had nothing to go on, worried that this could be the first gig I'd regret, especially when dressed in my new regular pink outfit I realised I stuck out like a sore thumb in an otherwise totally goth crowd

I started to warm up with the support acts and after really enjoying Deep Bleak I got invested and wondered how RFP would top them, but after a few songs they quickly grew on me, as the duo of band members Leah and Dean rocked out with their synth heavy rock

Leah was really passionate, grateful and humble, happy to make light of things in between her moody songs, greatly impressing me, she was overjoyed having an audience beyond their home of Dallas in the USA and went out of her way to welcome newcomers, so despite my obvious colour mismatch I stopped feeling like an outlier, I especially loved her nuanced end of show message, encouraging us to set boundaries but love people going through things we didn't understand and love your families, either blood or found being equally valid, and her refusal to disappear off stage and make us beg for an encore, dropping the act by nicely asking and delivering instead

I planned to say hi after the show and give them great praise but after a huge crowd came for meet and greets she took her time with I decided to leave them to it so I wouldn't have to wait for the post midnight train, on the way I made sure to give Chris credit for his taste

It's extremely rare to take a total shot in the dark punt where I know nothing about the lineup, normally I let an act or 2 I already know guide me to an otherwise lineup, but this felt like a great genuine surprise
