Yesterday, the ECOSYSTEM came alive. 🌱

Local businesses, artists, runners, yogis, musicians and neighbors all showed up at Ruby Jean's. Every purchase, connection and experience helped feed the next.

There is so much power in our collective focus. Abundance through our connection.
Creative Camp kids kicked us off, and the saxophone set an easy, joyful tone all morning. We ran at 8, flowed through yoga at 9 and kept the market going until 1.

We had the Fall menu launch, music, dancers, skaters, face painting, yard games and pumpkin painting led by Raw Art. University Health came out with the veggie meter to encourage wellness, and 10 new Bigs signed up with @bbbskc. 💪🏾

This is what intentional ecosystem building looks like.

Thank you to KC Black Owned, Run It Blakc and The Winners Circle Collective for building it with us, and to every vendor, artist, performer, partner and neighbor who came out and found their place. It took all of us.

Today’s walking photo tour would not have been possible with the support of our sister and sispreneur and friend @justshawnlee @shawnleeofficial she’s with the stuff every single time and we love her because of this

This tour is unique because we get to capture in real time real black-owned businesses in Kansas City across the ages of generations that hold a special place in our hearts, we’re talking over 40+ years of Black Kansas Citians doing the work

What we realize is that there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of locally owned black businesses here in the city, but very few have the visibility and that’s something worth discussing

Why yes, the economy is all over the place but having more of our businesses across several visibility mediums such as brick and mortars, pop-ups and markets are vital, but brick and mortar locations can make the difference

Now we’re not saying go out and secure a physical location, but we are and here’s how, connect with organizations such as @811retail for their small business incubator program or join us at our all-new Black Wall Street Marketplace opening in our new location just around the corner

The rain may have changed our plans, but it didn’t stop our community from showing up.

More than 250 community members joined us for the B.L.O.C.K. Party and Wellness Fair, and what a night it was.

Our community came together for health screenings, health education, resources, interactive activities and our Data Walk, all while celebrating the people and relationships that make this work possible.

But this night was about more than an event.

We were honored to celebrate with Beverly Crawford and Broderick Crawford’s family, friends and community as we reflected on his legacy of service.

And we finally got to share a secret we’ve been holding.

In partnership with our Community Advisory Board and the University of Kansas Medical Center, our Center is entering a new chapter:

The Broderick Crawford Center for Community Health and Health Outcomes.

A special thank you to the Heartland Health Conference and Sporting Kansas City for helping us make a last-minute move indoors possible, and to our community partners, vendors, volunteers and staff who made the night possible.

Broderick’s commitment to community is forever ingrained in the work we do, and we’re just getting started.
