Black and white observations—September 2026.

I missed you like you are my home. Black-and-white portrait of a woman in profile, dressed in black and standing against a light background, with one hand resting near her neck and rings visible on her fingers.

Black and white observations—July.

Just a few days left, but I think I’ve seen enough. Black-and-white close-up portrait of a person wearing a black turtleneck. Dramatic side lighting leaves half of the face in shadow as one hand rests near the chin.

as photographers, we hear the word intention constantly.

be more intentional with your composition.
be more intentional with light.
be more intentional with timing.

in wedding photography, intention is measurable. it’s technical. it’s knowing where to stand, how to expose for highlights, when to step in and when to step back. it can be taught. it can be refined.

what’s harder to define, and far more important, is what happens beyond intention. that’s instinct.

the photographs that stay with you aren’t only precise. they breathe. they carry something unforced. something you couldn’t manufacture even if you tried.

when the work becomes too controlled, too contrived, it starts to feel constructed. and weddings aren’t constructed. they’re lived.

that’s the difference between taking a photograph with technical precision and taking one with emotional awareness.

this is the art.

some of my favorite work has always come from photographing friends and family who see the world the way i do. the artists and creatives who’ve been part of this journey through so many seasons.

ray & leslie are those people.

and as the year closes, i’m reminded how much of a privilege it is to make images like these. honest, quiet, familiar. the kind of work that brings me back to why i picked up a camera in the first place.

Exhibited and designed especially for @3daysofdesign , Tierras Prometidas is a material chronicle, a fragmented body bound by memory, labor, and longing.

As the central installation within Manos y Materia–From Hands to Heritage, and composed of five distinct pieces, this body of work tells the story of an artisan who, unable to sustain a dignified life through their craft, is forced to migrate, leaving behind family, place, and identity in search of something better.

Through clay, glass, stone, wool, wood, and iron, this work weaves together the visible and invisible forces that shape their journey: the hope that fuels it, the violence that compels it, the silence that shadows it. In this piece, the artisan is not a victim, nor a symbol—they are the protagonist. The materials become storytellers, carrying the weight of injustice but also the strength of resilience.

Tierras Prometidas is not a resolution, it’s a reckoning, a tribute, and a question: at what cost comes survival, and what does it say about us when the hands that build beauty must leave to survive?

Special thanks to @itzawood @selvasavia for collaborating with us in the creation of some of these pieces, @deerleslie and @rayvazzquez for helping us portray this powerful story, @la.red.materia for allowing us to photograph in their amazing space, and @whitelabelproject for giving us a platform to exhibit this piece in Copenhagen.
