25 years of Roger Sanchez’s ‘Another Chance’ ❤️

Released in 2001, ‘Another Chance’ became a landmark moment in Defected’s early history. Built around the instantly recognisable sample of Toto’s ‘I Won’t Hold You Back’, Roger Sanchez transformed the emotion of the original into a house record with a life of its own. The track shot to No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in its first week.

The accompanying music video, following a woman carrying an oversized red heart through the streets of New York, captured the vulnerability and hope at the heart of the music. Beneath the club-ready production was a feeling that resonated far beyond the dance floor, helping make the track as memorable emotionally as it was musically.

For a young independent label still finding its feet, the success was huge. Arriving at a challenging time for the business, the single provided a significant boost and helped secure Defected’s future. More than just a chart-topping record, it became a pivotal release in the label’s journey from an ambitious new venture to an established name in global house music.

‘Another Chance’ is the first track on the fourth edition of our Defected Classics vinyl series, now available for pre order ahead of release on 30th October!

Two DJs. Two mates. Zero plan. 😂🔥

Just me and Dynamike at my place, jumping on the decks, digging through records and playing whatever felt right. No serious set, no perfect running order — just proper house music, old-school electro, mashups and two mates having a laugh behind the decks.

A few of the tracks that made it into the session:

🎧 Tiga – You Gonna Want Me
🎧 Planet 69
🎧 Coburn – We Interrupt This Programme
🎧 Doctor Pressure mashup
🎧 Dina Vass – The Love I Have for You
🎧 Felix da Housecat – Silver Screen Shower Scene
🎧 C-Mos – 2 Million Ways
🔥 Plus plenty more…

Sometimes the best DJ sessions are the ones you never planned.
