‘Revolution’ and 'Born This Way'- Choreography by @morendaesol_

A call to change the system that decides who belongs in dance. This is about sparking a revolution for every body. Not just on the stage, but in every dancer and every audience member who chooses to believe and hope for a new, more inclusive future for dance.

Our bows/ending dance, a true celebration of styles and my dancers. At the end of every 'Defiance In Motion' show I gave a small speech, usually mentioning the other shows available to see as part of the festival, but also noting that this opportunity came when I was on the brink of quitting dance for good. And now I have the pleasure of directing my second show and being a part of an amazing community of creatives.
I can't thank @theatrecrudeokc or @meehertensteiner enough for their unwavering support❤️

‘Joy in Motion’- Choreography by @morendaesol_
This piece was about release, community, and remembering that dance is also a celebration. A celebration of joy, allowing it to take center stage.

Realized that I didn't finish posting the rest of the photos from 'Defiance In Motion' oops😅

This piece will be coming back in 'Becoming' with a bellydance twist👀

‘Unbroken’- Choreography by @morendaesol_
This piece was pure survival. It’s the fire in us that refuses to burn out, a declaration that we're still here, alive, and unbreakable.

This piece will also be revived in my new show 'Becoming'. About learning to accept ourselves and let other people, let them see our struggle and trust that they'll support us.

‘Shadows Within’- Choreography by @morendaesol_

Being haunted by inner voices that say we’re not enough, rooted in fear and doubt. Facing those monsters, dancing with them, and transforming their power into our own.

So hauntingly beautiful and emotionally charged. These two dancers did such an amazing job portraying this piece, the photos truly speak for themselves.

‘Becoming’- Choreography by @zchrihaaa
This piece represents resilience, reflecting fragmentation, glitch, and the slow work of reassembly. Even when everything feels heavy, there is always a chance to begin again, softer but stronger.

The musicality, the artistry🤌
This was an amazing piece to watch unfold and be performed on stage. Can't thank Zachariah enough for creating this beautiful choreography for 'Defiance In Motion'

-Side note, yes I did forget that I named this piece 'Becoming', ironically the same name of the show I'm directing in November 👀

‘Own Me’- Choreography by @morendaesol_
This piece came from the desire to reclaim agency in a world that objectifies and commodifies bodies, especially in dance. Flipping the narrative, instead of being owned or controlled, this number shows how power can be redefined on our own terms.

This piece will also be revived in 'Becoming', showcasing reclamation of power and growing confidence, in spite of judgment.

'RUNNING' ‐ Improv
Born from my own moment of almost giving up on dance, this piece voices the weight of expectations and the crushing belief of not being enough and the strength it takes to keep going anyway.

I was truly on the brink of giving up on dance completely after having some negative experiences and feeling like there wasn't space for me in the community. Theatre Crude gave me a chance and I can't be more grateful for their support and the opportunities they've given me.

I'm directing my second show as creative director of @defiancedancecollective
No matter what obstacles I face, I'll continue to push forward.

I realized I never shared any of the photos from 'Defiance In Motion' sooooo I'm going to share them now

Our opening, 'The Burden' - choreographed by @meehertensteiner and @morendaesol_
A reflection of the boxes the dance world puts us in, and the courage it takes to break free and move beyond them. This piece was about breaking out of that mold and reclaiming freedom in your body.

Thank you @charliealanratliff and @dennisspielman for capturing these photos!
