Episode 16: Bet on Yourself with Dr. Avni Patel

In this episode of 365 Proof by Defining Wellness, Daniel Phyfer and Courtney Milan sit down with Dr. Avni Patel, board-certified psychiatrist and founder of Mississippi Psychiatry and Wellness.

Dr. Patel shares her journey from growing up in Columbia, Mississippi, to building a thriving psychiatric practice dedicated to serving her home state. She reflects on the path that led her to psychiatry, the importance of addressing mental health stigma, and the role lifestyle, trauma, grief, and connection play in long-term healing.

The conversation explores addiction recovery, social media’s impact on mental health, the unique challenges faced by high achievers, sports psychiatry, and why one of the most powerful tools in treatment is simply listening.

At the heart of this episode is a simple but powerful message: healing begins when you’re willing to bet on yourself.

Produced by Daniel Anderson of Audio Alchemy Productions.

We’re so proud of our co-founder Neely for sharing her heart and her story on the 365 Proof Podcast this week 💙

In this raw and redemptive conversation, Neely opens up about what it’s like to walk through the fire as a parent, a daughter, and a woman in long-term recovery. She speaks candidly about the impact addiction has had on her family—and how it ultimately led her to co-create Family Recovery Collective as a place for others to heal out loud.

This episode is for anyone who has ever felt alone in their grief, their guilt, or their hope for something better.

🎧 Tune in and share with a friend who needs encouragement today.

Suicide rates in construction are 5x higher than the national average. I’ve seen more suicides and suicide attempts while working with construction companies than I have in 15 years of clinical practice. Mental health in construction is no longer a conversation we can afford to skip. Hard Hat Help app provides a free, vital resource for crews everywhere. Let’s look out for our own. 🏗️✨#construction #contractor #constructionmanagement #constructionleadership #mentalhealth

🤩Thank you @danielphyfer for this opportunity to share my story!
Wishing you all so much Success with this NEW podcast @definingwellnesscenters We can’t wait to hear each story you will be sharing!👏🏼‼️

Big News - we’ve officially launched the 365 Proof Podcast by Defining Wellness Centers Inc.!

What started as a crazy idea has officially come to life. Courtney Milan and I may never love hearing our own voices on playback or watching ourselves stutter and repeat ourselves on camera, but we know we have something to say. More importantly, the people we are bringing on this show need to be heard.

This studio was built inside our Spiritual Center on campus — a place that’s held countless stories and played a meaningful role in so many journeys through Copac and Defining Wellness. It felt like the perfect spot to keep those conversations going.

The heart behind 365 Proof is simple: if this podcast helps even one person, it’s worth it. We want to shine a light on what’s happening in our communities around mental health and substance use. There is hope and there is help.

And we couldn’t have started with anyone better than Susan Lang Cleland. She’s amazing and is doing incredible work through Mission Vigilant-For the 22 and beyond. She truly set the tone for what this podcast is all about.

We’re excited for what’s ahead, and grateful you’re here at the beginning. This was our very first episode, and we’re only getting better every week.

See y’all every other Tuesday!
