‼️SUMMER SEND-OFF‼️

It’s been a minute since I’ve done one of these, but this is a very special one. This group of guys have worked with me since they were in middle school, way back when I was an intern at the old HPI. Back before I knew anything about anything. Back when I was trying to get my feet on the ground and start taking steps towards where I am today, and where I want to be in the future.

Over the course of my time working with all of them, including several not pictured here, I’ve had the opportunity to watch them grow both as athletes and individuals. I’ve helped them to get stronger and faster, it’s true, but I’ve also had a front row seat to watching them become strong leaders and advocates for choosing to do the difficult tasks required to reap the success that they deserve.

Now they are grown young men, about to start their senior year of high school, and have finished their last first week of football season. Gentlemen, it’s been an absolute pleasure to have been one of your coaches and mentors. Thank you for your trust in me and the work we have done together. Don’t ever stop being the hardest workers in the room. Don’t ever stop taking steps. And most importantly, don’t ever doubt the things you can accomplish.

‼️TOP END SPEED TRAINING‼️

Here’s a quick glance into my top end speed training for high school football athletes that we have been working on coming into the spring season.

I have been experimenting with what’s called our Reactive Strength Index (RSI), which simply put is the inverse relationship between vertical jump height and ground contact time, and how improvements in this measurement can impact our maximal speed capabilities.

This particular training block has three elements:

1.) Bilateral Overcoming Isometric w/ Floating Heels — priming our lower limbs to produce massive amounts of force without any change in muscle fiber length

2.) Multi Response Hurdle Hops w/ MAX Effort RSI Jump — using that neural priming to perform three quick hops in rapid succession followed by a final/maximal effort jump, seeing how quickly/explosively we can get off of the ground

3.) MAX Effort Top End Sprint — keeping that idea/emphasis of quickness off the ground/explosive elasticity, for 5 seconds

I’ve been working with most of these guys for around 2 years now, and the progress they continue to achieve is truly something special to watch. If getting faster/stronger sounds like something you want to start doing, you know who to call 🫵🏼💪🏼🤘🏼
