Re Pick + Pick & Pop

Great Drill to teach small sided concepts and increase max reps

📌Save for next training sesh

- Re Pick
We use picks to create an advantage offensively. Here we are picking low side then setting it back up and using the pick on our high side. We want to force communication and movement to create an angle. Change speeds and change directions

- Pick and Pop
Defenses are going to be able to guard pick actions. We aren’t going to win every time we set a pick. A great way to stay in the flow and offensive movement is going right into a repick. If they guard this action well we want the pick player to understand spacing and pop out for an outlet pass. For example, say they double the repick we need to create a passing angle to help out our teammate. In this drill the next player up feeds the pick player and they work their low wing iso dodge

I love using this set up to go through multiple small sided concepts. We can maximize our reps and talk about situations which may force certain movements. That way when we get into a game we can anticipate our next move.

🔑 we play out of these actions next. We went 3v3 and added a D and O low. We used the mid line / middle of the field as our OB. We now take what the defense gives us.

3 Speed Drills for Lacrosse Athletes

1. Chute Runs

- Footwork ie: Ickey shuffle, 2 in each, 2 out 2 in
- Plant Break
- Accel Out

Due to wind direction that day we went from side line to hash so roughly 20 yards. I want to get a “game” feel of either a Ground Ball, Turnover, or Regular Clearing situation where we make a dodge and put the pedal down. Create the angle and now win the angle by FINISHING through. Accelerate ALL the way through.

2. Linear Curve Run

- GLE 2 point start
- Maintain stride length
- Slight lean into inside shoulder
- Stay tight on the 12 meter arc

Very rarely are we going to be running in a straight line longer than 10-15 yards. We need to be able to keep gaining speed while maneuvering through traffic. A great tool to use is the 12 meter arc. You already have it on the field and it gives the athletes a great visual without having to run over cones. I had them start at GLE and get through the slot. We want to hug the line while still gaining speed with each step. Our stride should not shorten, even though we are running at an angle instead of dead straight.

3. Transition Run

- Accel 10
- Back Pedal 10
- Accel 20

Last but certainly not least. This one lowkey is a huge game changer and needs to be in your training. Being able to transition from forward to backward on the fly is going to help you so much being able to keep everything in front of you, especially getting through the mid field. If a team is clearing against you we need to be able to gain angles on our retreat back and also stay in a straight line. Fast path between 2 points is a straight line… that goes for if we are on a flat surface. IYKYK
