Delaney Petit is a rising senior at Merritt Island High School in Florida. The 5-foot-8 split blocker also plays for Cape Coast Beach Volleyball. She outlined her journey in this Digging Dish.
“I started playing both indoor and beach volleyball when I was 8 years old with Cape Coast Volleyball Club because my older sister played and I would go to her practices with her and my mom,” she said.
She has settled in at her positions.
“For indoor, I have always been an outsider hitter and beach I prefer being a split blocker,” she said.
She wants to play college volleyball.
“Since starting volleyball, I have always dreamed of playing in college,” she said. “After my indoor U16 season, I stepped away from indoor and decided that I wanted to focus solely on beach training and pursue my dream of playing beach volleyball in college.”
She enjoys the mental game that is employed in beach volleyball.
“My favorite aspect of beach volleyball is that it is a very strategic game,” she said. “You don’t have to be the tallest girl on the court to make a big impact! Communication is crucial and having a partner you can trust is so important.”
She trains hard to reach her vast potential.
“I currently train with Cape Coast Beach Volleyball Club and play on the Merritt Island High School beach volleyball team,” she said. “I also participate in various clinics and tournaments. I recently played in Gulf Shores, Alabama and earned a bid to USAV Beach Nationals taking place in Virgina Beach, Virginia this summer.”
She offered words of wisdom.
“My advice for younger players is to remember your training, play smart and always have fun!” she said.
