On many occasions, the late Congressman Sir John Lewis said: "...if it hadn't been for music, the Civil Rights Movement would have been like a bird without wings....Music brought us together...it created a sense of solidarity...” 💙 . . A lot of people from my community here often ask or comment about how I curate my insta stories with imagery and music...To me, both music and sound effects are equally important because the goal is to evoke an emotion...whether it's a bop or a vibe, I want to transport viewers to a certain experience, and the images give shape to the story as well. I think there’s something particularly potent about mixing music with audible brand representation, so, Mariama of @brownbelle welcomed me back for another one of her signature social segments of “At Home With Belle”. There are a lot of ways to show up and keep showing up every day. We need to listen to Black womxn and pay them, do the internal work, donate, petition, protest, talk to our relatives and friends, and ⁑support Black owned shops⁑. Here are a handful of shops that are making super creative stuff for your ears! • There are so many ways to support businesses on social media: Follow them. Like their photos. Comment on their photos. Share with friends. Buy from their shop. • (Also remember that many of these shops are probably dealing with lots of new followers and inboxes full of DMs. Please show up respectfully and with patience!) • @ultralight_dreams | Jazzmine makes handpainted terra cotta planters--check out her eye for color mixing!! And she also makes polymer clay earrings that have the most amazing textures. Her doorknocker earrings were made by creating a mold from vintage earrings. Super. Cool. • @theindependentyouth | Ariana is from Oklahoma City and she not only makes really awesome jewelry in her shop, she is also an illustrator, and a full-time grad student. You can find her playing with resin, clay, and metal in her designs--check it out! • @decadentminis | Trina is a self-taught mini food sculptor. She uses scented polymer clay so those strawberry cupcake earrings smell like strawberry cupcakes! • @thetinytassel | Mimi is in Charleston and I think her grid might be even more colorful than mine?! She not only makes bright sparkly, tassel-y stuff for your ears, she also throws tassel parties where you can bring your friends to her shop and have some fun crafting. • @amareeandreesejewelry | Risa makes metal earrings and I am especially in love with the ones she makes with that bright blueish-green patina. I don't know how she makes magic happen (science!) but it's very cool. • @deleaylashay | Marissa is currently living in Chicago where she is a practicing artist and jewelry designer. Her earrings really are like mini works of wearable art.
