“Millions Ain’t Far: La Familia” on #35mmfilm
2023

I went to @emporiumneworleans to play my friend in pool and that’s when I saw a large group of folks playing games and having a great time. They all had a light hearted competitive spirit and seemed to really enjoy their time together. I caught the first image of them playing hoops and that’s when they turned to inquire where the flash came from (happens a lot).

I introduced myself and that’s when they told me that they were all cousins and all linked after not seeing each other for a little and losing a few family members. I felt instantly both happiness and envy. Happiness that they were still spending quality time together, showing love and taking care even despite their losses. Envy because I have no family here and rarely get to spend that quality time with my cousins like I did in my youth.

I told them to keep planning family nights and to keep taking pictures. You never know, someone could be here today and gone tomorrow.
