The way my heart was so happy when I saw her walking toward the table! She had been on my shortlist for the first Welcome Table... Because she is one of the few people who I actually feel re-energized by, even though I’m an introvert. Because I missed her. Because we’d drifted…not out of issues or beef, but just because life be life-ing for all of us most times 🫠 And accordingly, when I invited her, she was excited but could only say maybe because of her schedule. Even down to a couple of days before, she was still a maybe. All I could really do was include her in the final count and just hope I hadn’t planned for her in vain. I've known her since she was a teenager and after all these years, she’s still one of my most favorite people in the world! Y’know, some relationships don’t need “fixing” per se. Sometimes they just need somewhere to meet up again 🥹 ___ (btw, I think I'd like to make The Welcome Table a regular thing so let me know what you think: should I get some ladies together at Abode Kitchen & Bar again, or try something new like Dobra Tea House? 👇🏾)

How did we end up with strangers hugging it out on a city sidewalk and planning the group chat for “next time”??? Because late last night, despite how well the floral shop side quest went, the nerve-citement nearly got the best of me (as I sat at my kitchen table writing out place cards and welcome notes when I know darn well that hand-lettering is not my gift 😂) This afternoon though? Of course! OF COURSE it would end on this note. Last night, I was poring over the menu because I didn’t want to have to figure it out on the spot in between my nerves and trying to host. This afternoon, a brilliant idea struck me and before I could finish the sentence, everyone co-signed getting a few dishes to share 🤌🏾 Last night, I was writing out icebreakers and questions to fill the dreaded conversation lulls. This afternoon, my notes app never even got opened because the conversations never stopped 🥹 From my oldest friend and godsister, to the new friend I made at a coffee shop literally three weeks ago, the only common denominator between these women was me; they were strangers to each other.  So I thought I'd need to perform. I thought I'd have to ensure everything was perfect. Especially if I want to do this again. In reality, I just needed everything to be intentional and genuine.  Around that @abodekitchenpgh table I actually didn’t have to entertain, or even facilitate. All I had to do was offer a seat and then get outta the way; these women created the connection. In two short but beautiful hours, “I don’t know who’s gonna be there, besides Jacque” became hugs and numbers exchanged and "next time"… Why did I ever even doubt? 😂 — Hey, if you’re new here, I’m Jacque – an extroverted introvert with ADHD tendencies and a relentless desire to gather women together around real relationships, meaningful travel, beauty & wonder, homemaking & hobbies, but most of all: Jesus. If that’s your vibe, you’re in the right place! Follow for more and let’s be friends 🫶🏾
