Illuminasia: Asian American BookCon 2026 at the National Museum of Asian Art was a BLAST‼️

A thousand thanks to Nicole Kim Dowd, Janis Woodward, Demi Mohamed, and their staff at NMAA as well as Olivia Chang of AABC for their tireless work. They made this year’s BookCon a celebratory, safe, and inclusive event for the thousands of visitors who came. And we’re so grateful to all the Asian American writers and artists who came to share their writings and art. We can’t wait to share more videos and photos from NMAA 💙❤️🙏🏽🫶🏽

I love my village 🩵

I’m so grateful to my community who showed up at the store today to problem solve, paint, eat pupusas, and put themselves into this little store on Columbia Road. Somehow every small task today turned into a big project — the phone couldn’t connect to the shop internet because the phone company sent us the wrong one and Jade sat on the line with customer service. The math didn’t math on the front window measurements (we love old buildings!) but Demi and Lucia brought out the power tools and got it done. Maggie and Sophie assembled a shelf we picked up together on a day trip to Baltimore this summer, and it only took three (four?) attempts.

Not only does each item for sale at GGV come with a story, each fixture and piece of display furniture do too. I’ve been determined to get the overwhelming majority of the shop’s furniture used or locally made. I hope the shop feels like an extension of the community that helped build it ✨
