Simply put, this life of mine wouldn’t exist if I didn’t have the power to make choices about my own body. My partner and I got pregnant when we first started dating a year after college. We were both on starting teacher salaries around 30k and our relationship was new and not strong. We were financially insecure, immature, and unprepared young people. And we had so many dreams that wouldn’t have come to fruition if we had been forced to bring a child into a country that doesn’t provide or prioritize health insurance, post-partum support, parental support, early childhood education, childcare, etc etc etc.

The right to choose is behind so many people’s success stories and I think it’s important that we share these stories. Abortion is normal. 1 in 4 women in the US have had one. Not knowing anyone who’s had an abortion doesn’t give you moral high ground; more likely, it means that you may just not be the type of person that people trust with that kind of information.

But if you already know and you’re here to support, I think the way we do that is 1) share our stories to continue to deconstruct this fabricated culture war and make abortion normal again. And 2) donate to local abortion funds, especially in the most at-risk states like Louisiana who has just advanced a bill that would make abortion a homicide. Insane.

A team of amazing women and I are raising money for the New Orleans Abortion Fund to help fund the travel, childcare and other prohibitive expenses that people experience when they are in a really crappy situation. I'm asking you to donate and share this with the people in your community and to ask them to donate and share as well. My studio will be matching all donations up to 2k. Link in stories to donate.
