Today we are sharing Barbara O'Brien's Juror's Comments on Juror's Choice Award Winner Denise Oehl's pieces Snow Puddles and Around.

Oehl’s photographs present a world seemingly without sound. The extreme quiet of these intimately-scaled hand coated palladium prints reveals a carefully considered landscape where what could easily be overlooked becomes her subject. What her gaze falls upon in this unpeopled world becomes, for a short time, our reality. This world is defined by the mysterious surface and close palette of this antique photo process. The viewer must look closely to read the image. These photographs invite us to pay attention to small moments of beauty: Reflections in a muddy field in “Snow Puddles” or trees along the side of a small highway whose edges are softened by fog in “Around.”
