One of the hardest things about moving has been leaving a place that I have been able to call a second home for the last 8 years. Denise’s Dance Academy is truly more than just a studio, it’s a home.

Over these past 8 years I have gained some of my best friends and the best support system, I have worked with some amazing dancers I have had the privilege to watch grow into beautiful dancers and humans, and created some memories that are going to last a lifetime. Being able to be a teacher, friend, supporter and so much more to all of the dancers that I taught there was beyond rewarding.

When Quintin and I lost Declan in 2023, I did not want to return to the studio as I was trying to grieve and figure out what life would look like. Thankfully, with constant support and motivation from Denise and Quintin, I returned to DDA and found a new purpose for being a dance teacher. Every single person in that studio; teachers, dancers, and family members all welcomed me back with open arms, patience, support and love for my family.

The only way I felt I could return to the studio was to dedicate a dance to Declan. Denise and the dancers in this piece called “Lost Without You” made my vision come to life, and SO much more. Our first competition season the girls surprised me backstage with pink & blue ribbon pins on their costumes for Pregnancy and Infant Loss. It is truly incredible the heart that these young women had for such a difficult story to be dancing, whether they chose mine or one of their own. I am so happy that I returned as it was a constant safe space for me, and still is to this day. (continue reading in the comments)

contemporary solo “Deep End”

words can not express how much this solo means to me. this solo is dedicated to my dad and his journey with leukemia, a form of blood cancer. he was diagnosed when i was only 5 years old, and went on to have a successful bone marrow transplant in 2018. during the time of his transplant i was not able to see my dad, or know how he was doing - we had to miss chapters of each others lives. it can be very hard for me to tell him how i feel and have felt during these times, so i decided i wanted to dance about it. i love you so much dad🧡

i also want to give a big thanks to @_katiecharest for choreographing this beautiful piece for me and for helping me share my story.
