One hand shapes the image. The other captures it. The shears taught me precision. The camera taught me perspective. Both taught me to see what others overlook. A line. An angle. The way light changes a face. Details can change the entire story. I’m Marvin Church. Behind the chair or behind the lens, my eye is my signature. @iflrnscouldtalk × @marvthebarb If this lens could talk, what would it say? Give this image a title in the comments. Follow @iflrnscouldtalk for my photography. Follow @marvthebarb for the art of grooming. #IfLensCouldTalk #MarvTheBarb #MarvinChurch #CreativePortrait #TheArtOfGrooming

Everyone on set thought it was a wig. It wasn’t. When Michael B. Jordan walked out for the camera test on Sinners, the whole room stopped. “That is not Michael B. Jordan. That’s Smoke and Stack.” Hair department head Shunika Terry Jennings used his real hair: a texturizer, a sharp side part, and no wig. That’s what makes a character feel real. The full Creative Labs episode is on YouTube. Link in bio. Know a stylist who wants to work in film? Send this to them. Next Creative Labs: Makeup department head @denisetunnell (Ironheart, Big Fish, Fast Five). Wednesday, Oct 28, 7pm ET. Register at the link in bio. Save this + follow for more. #Sinners #AtlantaFilm #MichaelBJordan #FilmHair #BreakIntoFilm (We had some tech issues recording this one, but this story had to be shared.)

WHEN GOD SAYS YES! Last week, during my morning devotion, I felt God telling me to make a call. Not an email. Not a long text. Just leave a voicemail. A few days later, while working on assignments and watching TNF, I finally made the call. Little did I know what God had in store! Since becoming an adjunct photography professor at @oakwoodu in 2022, I’ve made it my mission to use my relationships and resources to prepare our students for the business of photography and leave a lasting legacy. I knew our department needed updated cameras for students without their own equipment, so I reached out to a connection at Canon. I wasn’t asking for anything new. Just a few refurbished mirrorless cameras students could check out each semester. Well, let me tell you what God did! @canonusa blessed our department with SIX BRAND-NEW CANON EOS R CAMERAS, complete with lenses, batteries, and chargers! WHEW! WHAT!!!!! MAN!!!! CRAZY!!!! And get this! I’m not a Canon ambassador or Explorer of Light! MERCY!!!! I was speechless! No grant proposal. No committee meetings. No fruit baskets or donut deliveries! 😂 Just faith, a genuine relationship, and the willingness to knock on a door God told me to approach. The coolest part? Surprising Dr. Kabah and Dr. Elliot, who had NO IDEA, with a blessing that will impact students for years to come! Here’s what to keep in mind: Stop waiting for permission to make an impact. Build genuine relationships. Use your resources to bless others. And when God tells you to move, MOVE! Sometimes your YES to God opens doors for somebody else! A few special thank-yous: My fam at @creativesoulphoto and @beefearlessstudios , for encouraging genuine relationships with people who share similar values in our field. My guy @kevinmccarthy_21 at Canon! Man, you went ABOVE AND BEYOND! THANK YOU!!!!! WHEW!!! Dr. Elliot and Dr. Kabah, for trusting me to teach and pour into our students every semester! And y’all, I didn’t even have time to attach all the lenses before my lecture! 😂😂 After class they were learning their new cameras by exploring the menus! #teamcanon #blessings #hbcu #photography photos by @dokksavage
