So That the Names Are Not Forgotten

Some paths
form on their own, without being planned;
from a shared pain, from lumps in the throat
that only want to turn into words.

It all began with reading a few names…
names that carried a thousand images,
a thousand memories, a thousand tears.

And we walked a path we had never walked before,
together.

We cried together, we stood together,
gave each other soothing embraces,
and hands, kind and united,
pressed firmly together.

We gave and received feedback, despite all
the difficulties
that language built between us.

We wrote a thousand names…
and each time, we cried while reading them.

We took swift steps, we ran,
without anyone following; yet our minds
relived the anxiety of the streets and alleys
of Iran
as if we had experienced it ourselves in
those two nights.

And along this path we found new friends,
companions
who understood the pain.

This was a special experience;
an experience that kept us together
for one simple yet profound reason:
So that the names are not forgotten.

💚🕊️❤️
So that the names are not forgotten.د
