Thanks @jazzshots for some great pics from Reading last week. Next gig this Friday @derby.jazz
Audio here is obviously not Satori (though I'm always working on the sound!) - the app is currently being a 😣🤨😠

Happy Holidays 🎄TONIGHT, Wednesday 17 December from 6pm, brave the cold wet Derby weather and head to @atthelamphouse, Darley Abbey Mills, for a night of festive music, chess, mulled wine, cheese and GOOD VIBES!

This is my last session at The Lamp House in 2025 and I would like to thank all who have supported me and attended on the nights I have played!

You may not have heard of [Ahmed] but they perform worldwide and gigs in the UK outside London are rare as hen’s teeth. Their highly acclaimed music is probably closest to free-jazz, but is somewhat uncategorisable according to some reviewers.

Fellow mjazz promoters Derby Jazz have managed to secure this [Ahmed] gig on Sunday 16th November 4pm at Chapel Street Arts, Derby DE1 3GU.

Line-up Pat Thomas piano, Joel Grip double bass, Antonin Gerbal drums and Seymour Wright alto sax.

Novelist and jazz writer Geoff Dyer said, “Don’t think I’ve ever heard a more intense hour of music. Unbelievably great.”

Their music has rave reviews and rankings from jazz journalists and critics across Europe, USA and UK. Sample recordings from their 5-CD album set ‘Giant Beauty’ at ahmedquartet.bandcamp.com. [Ahmed] re-arrange and re-imagine in real time the music of composer, bassist and oud player Ahmed Abdul-Malik (1927-1993).

Find out more about this exceptional gig and book via the Derby Jazz website.
