i love waiting to get my film developed until months after the fact. mainly because i love to forget what photos i take and then be surprised as i look back the memories, moments, and even people that the camera picked up along the way.

a very wise person, @liddellkirsty, told me recently to look at my life from the barn and not the pasture. to be honest i was a little lost as to the meaning of the metaphor until i sought the help the of the internet and here’s what i found… when we live our lives focused on the pasture we miss out. we get so caught up on our work and tending to such a tiny piece of land, that we are utterly incapable of seeing the entire picture from beginning to end. however, when we look at our lives from the barn we gain a new perspective. we get to see the WHOLE field, all of it’s beauty and imperfections included. these photos for me, some very old and some very new, represent my field. my field filled with twists, turns, unexpected redirection, mistakes, rejections, but also immense blessing, favor, and mercy. life can be confusing sometimes, but here’s what i do know—when i look back at my field and see all that God has done, i am more than confident of His faithfulness and goodness to us in everything. it is a joy to lay it all, every piece, at His feet.

“He had made everything appropriate in its time. He has also put eternity in their hearts, but no one can discover the work God has done from beginning to end…i know that everything God does will last forever, there is not adding or taking away from it. God works so that people will be in awe of Him. Whatever is, has already been, and whatever will be, already is. However, God seeks justice for the persecuted.”

Ecclesiastes 3: 11; 14-5
