Gifting a Beach Drawing in Charleston – Sullivan’s Island

Sun July 26, 2026

I was blessed to gift one of the works I drew (on the beach of my family) to a wonderful Ms. Derrill M. who, along with her family walking by me as I drew constructed the image, noted how much they liked the piece. Initially, I’d said thank you, but I was a little late to catch on to what they were saying. I tried to offer it to them but initially I think they might not have heard me, but somehow, they’d come back after a few minutes and that was my chance to offer it to Ms. Derrill. And lo & behold, check out both our names. That was a nod from God that I was doing the right thing. And she and her husband & family all were very happy. I’m grateful for that moment!

What if the real mystery isn’t in discovering whodunnit? 🕵️‍♂️

Derrill McDavid’s “Of Priests and Detectives, Of Reason and Faith” pairs Benoit Blanc with Father Brown to explore where reason stops short and grace steps in.

Grab some popcorn (and some tissues) because we’re sharing our favorite grace-in-practice movies today over on our website! Lots to choose from in this outstanding and diverse list of films that capture the dynamism of grace that arrives on the scene when it’s not expected (or deserved).

Special thanks to Ben Self for rounding up all of these films from fellow mockingbird regular contributors!

“They are not alone. As Bells
in the spires call across
the wounded Charleston sky,

we close our eyes and listen
to the same stillness ringing
in our hearts, holding onto

one another like brothers,
like sisters because we know
wherever there is love, there is God.”
~ Marjory Wentworth
