There’s a special kind of magic that happens when writers gather 🙂‍↕️ We wrapped up the PREE Writing Studio a little over a week ago, but I’m still relishing all it was and all that came from it. Last year as a participant, this studio was pivotal in my decision to fully commit to my writing. This year as an organizer, it was a lot of work but deeply fulfilling to see writers from all over the world gather here in Jamaica to develop our craft and establish lifelong connections that will shape our writing journeys for years to come. Thank you to our wonderful tutors @marlonjameswriter, @jallenpaisant, @gaiutra, @rolandwatson_grant, @graftonmikie, @desanticarole, and session leaders @gloria.kiconco, @jetvgc, @_shaniakilah. Thank you @staceyannchin for hosting us so heartily at @kindredontherock. I am in awe of you all and grateful you were all part of this! Thank you to all the participants for bringing your positive energy and incredible talents 🤩 You all made this week unforgettable and I’m excited to see where you all go from here. Big up to the main organizing team who worked hard behind the scenes to make this studio a major success: @anniepaulish, @_kerrychen, and for the help of @sarashabaka, @liccorish, and Kerry-Coy Virtue. Thank you to our partners @deptlitsinenglish for the support and @princeclausfund for the funding to make this all possible. WE DID IT! 💃🏽 #PWS2025

Captured here (click thru), the story of a warrior writer who died yesterday--told from the points of view of a friend and colleague in the early queer movement (me) and from the beloved editor who gave her the break she so deserved. I hope Dorothy's spirit fuels our work, literary and activist, as we face the next few years. Thanks to @janetfitch323 and @desanticarole and most importantly to @dorothyallisonwriter who changed American literature and the queer movement and me.

Happy Birthday, Melissa Bank! Recently, in a box in our basement, I found a treasure trove of old photographs, including dozens and dozens of mini Polaroid photos of us. I’ve never laughed harder with anyone in my life than I used to with Melissa. 💔 #gonetoosoon #melissabank #RIP #girlsguidetohuntingandfishing #friend #bff

There is something profoundly uplifting about the start of a new journal — a sense of purpose in those clean pages, an invitation to think differently about a project underway, and the pleasure of a space that’s mine to shape, one that holds no expectations, only possibilities. Two writer friends— @desanticarole and @ozekiland — introduced me to the concept of a “process journal” while I was writing WILD GAME, (a very different take on any journal I’d ever kept before). It’s like a diary for your book … it’s where I solve problems, reflect on progress or stumbling blocks, jot down ideas for characters or plot, and express the joys and frustrations of writing. It’s been a seriously great tool for me. These three journals were made by my friend, Isa Catto. You can check them out @isacattostudio. The first one (purple) was in a swag bag at @aspenwords Summer Words conference — it was the perfect size for me. The next, the plover one, I made myself when Isa Catto Studio had a pop up store. And the one on top is the one I cracked open today, which was inspired by Beethoven Symphony No. 9 Ode to Joy – the colors each representing a musical note. Writers — who amongst you keeps a process journal?
