Oldie but a goodie!!

I originally choreographed this piece back in 2023 for Nation Ford High School right here in South Carolina while I was still at ECU! Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to teach it a few more times, making little tweaks here and there to keep it fresh. At this point, I probably have about five different versions of this same dance! 🤣🤣

This piece will always hold such a special place in my heart because it marked my first time stepping back into the dance team/POM world since highschool. It reminded me just how much I missed this style of dance and how much joy it brings me….❤️

With that being said, come dance with me every Thursday at 7pm for Teen/Adult POM @chsdancespace

Happy National Dance Day 💛

This piece is my senior solo that I performed in December of 2024. Which has just been sitting in my camera roll collecting dust for almost 2 years now. It’s taken me a while to even find the courage to watch this entire thing because of all the chaos that was happening in my life at that point in time. I had dedicated this piece to my dad in his memory, and for a long time I felt that I hadn’t performed my best for him. I hesitated watching it so long not wanting to relive any of the pain I endured while choreographing or just simply grieving not just him but the overall change happening in my life.

While looking through my camera roll today and finding this video, I’m just so proud of this girl. Proud of all the obstacles she overcame, all the loss she experienced in such a short period of time…. And how despite it all, she continued to show up, keep going, and shine her light.

In reflection, sometimes we get so caught up in what we think we could’ve done better or differently, that we forget to recognize how far we have come. And I know my dad is proud of me no matter the outcome.

Concept brain dump: What does it feel like to lose track of time with a loved one? To try to focus on one thing and get distracted? To get lost in your thoughts. Daydream while in reality. Reminisce on past experiences? Loose focus and track of time? Stand in silence yet your surroundings are so loud. Dissociate. Feel free in the mind and body. Regain focus. Concentrate on the present rather than past or future. Journey of finding oneself again. Finding the light. Resolving the inner battle of reflection and self-doubt. Finding those bright things within the darkness. Finding the balance of one’s surroundings and purpose, gaining light again.

☀️This summer, EMERGE125 teaching artist DeAsura Sidberry joined the Stars of Tomorrow Project, Inc. Summer Intensive Semester, supporting young artists through dance and movement classes, rehearsals, and experiences beyond the studio.✨

Throughout the program, students had opportunities to learn, explore, and grow together, building connections between movement, history, and the stories they were preparing to share onstage. We’re proud to have had DeAsura representing EMERGE125 and helping create a meaningful summer of movement, learning, and discovery as the Stars of Tomorrow students traveled through Virginia and Maryland!

Kinda chic to do dance a little differently 💅✨

A place where kids can grow in confidence, feel like they belong, and fall in love with dance along the way. 🩷

Yeah… we think that’s pretty chic. 🪩

Being a dance teacher is so much more than teaching steps and choreography. It’s pouring your heart into something you’re deeply passionate about and then getting the privilege of watching it spark something in someone else.

There are definitely long days, moments of doubt, and times when you wonder if all the hard work is making a difference. But then you see their faces light up when they finally nail a skill, gain confidence, make a new friend, or simply have fun doing what they love—and suddenly every bit of it is worth it.

Watching my students grow, believe in themselves, and truly shine is such a blessing. Knowing that I get to impact their little lives, even in the smallest ways, is something I never take for granted. Their smiles, laughter, and excitement are what keep me going and remind me why I love what I do so much. 💕
