How I built a 100K+ community (@design.buddies on Discord) before building any products! Got to speak about how at the Assembling conference in front of hundreds of founders + takeaways: How I make money: brand partnerships/sponsorships, courses at one point, software products, digital products, public speaking, investing, and more How we got our first 100 members: posting on LinkedIn, sharing events as resources in design Facebook groups, hosting fun meetups that get members to invite their friends to join Design Buddies KPIs: meaningful connections made between members, fun, growth, money. No specific number, just vibes 100 -> 100K members: educational events, world tour, lowkey spamming “how to get a design job” events…. And most importantly an active community with great mods!! How I plan to get to 1 million members: endless experimentation, building software products with design x AI tools and getting feedback + building in public, design buddies global chapters? And more —— I also got to speak on a panel with other creators about how AI is impacting the creators economy along with @dear.kxtie @dear_corneliaaa @ssskrlet_ , Aiko, and Chloe! Overall takeaway: don’t stress about following trends, do what you wanna do and don’t use AI to make your content. Use AI to help you give feedback to improve!
