2026 goal: Learn something new ✓

Last month, during Detroit Month of Design, resident artist @TonyPrintz led a two-day workshop at Buffalo Prescott, where eight participants learned the fundamentals of design + fabrication while constructing a Shoal Table / Stool of their own.

Different colors and styles resulted in eight entirely unique pieces. Each one taking time, patience + a whole lot of work.

With 2027 just around the corner, we’re excited to continue BUILD programming for those who are ready to make something with their own two hands.

Archived Healing @thelovebuilding for Detroit month of design! I hope everyone who came and participated in our workshops with arts and scraps and Goodness Gracious! Hope you enjoyed our art exhibition, sound healing and meditation film centered around healing. It was an evening full of self reflection and community and I thank you for taking part.

“I scream out 48205”

@visitdetroit and @afarmedia asked me to show the world Detroit’s East Side. I started where I always start: home.

Osborn. Lape Soulfood. The Big Baby at Food Exchange. Belle Isle at sunset, behind the Casino, sitting on a rock. These aren’t attractions. They’re the archive.

For ten years I’ve documented Black Detroit block by block: the overlooked person, the overlooked place, the everyday moment nobody thought to keep. The work has a name now. Memory engineering.

That work has since earned the @kresgeartsdetroit Artist Fellowship, the Spirit of Detroit Award, and the Cultural Arts Rising Star Award and Detroit’s International Creative Ambassador by @designcoredet. It’s on the walls of the Charles H. Wright Museum and has been covered by Forbes, The New York Times, and NPR. Now it’s a national travel guide.

When I came up, I didn’t see people who looked like me thriving in this field. So if you’re the next kid from the East Side reading this: the path is real, and it can start on your own block.

Detroit doesn’t need discovering. It needs documenting.
