FakePNG Eyewear is a concept that transforms a digital frustration into a wearable object.

In image editing software, transparency is represented by the checkerboard pattern. A “fake PNG” occurs when an image that appears transparent is actually saved with the checkerboard embedded into it. For many designers, the moment of downloading and attempting to use the file often ends in disappointment — a minor but recognizable internet experience that has found its place within digital culture.

This project brings a digital error and interface artifact into physical reality, transforming a moment of frustration into a wearable object and visual identity. At the same time, it explores the relationship between internet culture, digitalization, and visual representation.

FakePNG Wall Organizer is a project that turns the disappointment of downloading a PNG image you thought was exactly what you needed into an aesthetic object. By turning every item you hang on it into a “FakePNG,” it reinterprets this experience as a functional surface and a simple conversation piece.

In digital environments, transparency is usually shown with a checkerboard pattern. The term “fake PNG” describes an image that is expected to have a transparent background but instead clearly shows this pattern, meaning it is not actually transparent. This often causes frustration, as the image cannot be used as intended, and over time it has become an internet meme.

The organizer translates this digital indicator into a physical surface. Its checkerboard structure is not only a visual reference but also works as a structural system. With this system, the organizer can be customized, expanded, or rearranged into separate parts using easily attachable modular units. The raised grid surface allows everyday objects to be hung and organized in a flexible way.

Fake PNG Wall Organizer turns both a digital representation and a familiar experience into a tangible product.
