Our friend Shelly. The life she led so fully which was taken way, way too soon was celebrated in the most beautiful way yesterday by her dearest friends and family at her favorite spot by the bay where we would walk together. We gathered in a circle of flowers and shared our memories of her and then floated our flowers out into the water. 🌺 Many people rembered Shelly saying RAD! And that’s exactly what she was. Radiant. Courageous. Full of light and grace. FUNNY! Shelly truly was a radical human being, wholly genuine with a smile that made everyone feel so good. Talking with her was a treasured experience because she was a very good listener. I will always miss the sound of Shelly’s voice saying “Totally”! The feeling of affirmation that encompasses full understanding and support is a rare thing. Not just the usual nodding of heads and uh huhs but TOTALLY. Feeling heard is so important. And for me feeling understood is akin to being deeply loved. And with that deep listening, Shelly would often respond with wonder. Not advice or fixing but a curiosity that would lead me to find answers I may not have thought of before. She was very true to herself and through that lens of knowing who she was without needing anyone’s approval, she could see me as I am, while acknowledging the person I am continually becoming. What a gift! I’m so grateful for the time that I got to know her and am in awe of all the love she gave to the many lucky souls who gathered to honor her yesterday. None of us were ready to lose her.

Things to be happy about: 1)Preserved Lemons: One of the many things that you will learn all about (and take home!) from the Fall Fermenting Workshop happening this Sunday with me and @chefserenitywood ✨DM for deets. 2) The cake I made yesterday which was covered in ganache, (you can read about ganache as sonnet or haiku in my 3rd thing to be happy about), candied nuts and dried figs (hello Autumn)! It had an @ottolenghi top layer of walnut halva cake and an even better bottom layer of @jodyvassallobeautifulfood black sesame cake. 3)SWEET + SALTY cookbook by @lagustasluscious 🍫 (she’s one of my heros) came out today and my copy arrived and I’m OVER THE MOON about it because I’m going to make something from it with preserved lemons for the luncheon on Sunday!🍯🍋 4)Impeachment 🍑🍑🍑🍑 #swipe
