POSTCARDS FROM TROMSØ 🐋🤍🇳🇴

If whale watching in the Arctic isn’t on your bucket list yet, this your sign to add it.

We set off from Tromsø at 4am for the 3.5–4 hour journey to Skjervøy, a small fishing town surrounded by some of Norway’s most incredible scenery.

We visited in December during polar night, when the sun stays below the horizon. And somehow, we got to experience that amazing Arctic glow whilst watching humpback whales and even a whole family of orcas swimming alongside their babies. 🥹🐋 brb crying x

Honestly, one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life 🧿

If you’re planning a winter trip to Tromsø, put this at the very top of your list. 🤍❄️

We crossed “Kiss under the Northern Lights” off the bucket list! ✨🇳🇴❤️

The Northern Lights were part of the plan for our anniversary trip to Tromsø, Norway… but here's something I learned: Don't plan a whole trip around the Aurora Borealis, because you might not see it! 💚

We tried our luck in Iceland a few years ago and didn't see them. This time, we got lucky enough to catch them in Norway! 🙌 Shout-out to NLT Guide Company for taking us out to chase the Aurora and take this awesome photo!✨

But here's the thing nobody really tells you… what looks AMAZING through your camera lens might look very different to your own eyes!

What we saw in person was more like a faint, milky glow against a gorgeous, star-filled sky. The camera picked up those beautiful greens, but the colors weren't nearly as vivid to our eyes. 🤯 When aurora activity is low, our eyes have a harder time distinguishing colors in the dim light, even when a camera captures them beautifully.

The silver lining? The night sky itself was incredible! We could see stars and constellations so clearly, including the Big Dipper. 🌟 Sometimes the magic is in what you see beyond the main attraction!

When the aurora is stronger, you have a better chance of seeing those incredible dancing lights and colors with your own eyes. And that's still on my bucket list!

My advice? Plan a trip with plenty of other amazing things to see and do, too. That way, even if Mother Nature doesn't put on the show you're hoping for, you're still having an unforgettable adventure! ❤️✈️

As for us? Maybe Finland will be our next chance to see those magical lights dancing across the sky with our OWN eyes! 🇫🇮✨
