Well we made it to San Martine Island, however we only had a few hours of fun before this tropical depression hit us square at our anchorage. Its too much to get into but lets just say we had 4 footers and 30-40mph wind, pouring rain, most lighting and thunder ever, in our anchorage. We ended up resetting, losing an anchor and chain set and was not able to find shelter without sinking the skiffs, so we decided to put one in gear and head the direction of the wind. Seemed to work for an hour or so but after loosing a cleat and then a second, Me and Mikey Lane decided to superman into our boats at 2:45 am in 6 foot sees blowing around 25mph. We were able to make it to the skiffs with limited damaged and ended up shadowing the big boat until day break as it made it down hill(southeast wind) back to Colonet.

At daybreak, Mike and I hadn’t had a wink of sleep and been following the big boat for two hours, exhausted we decided to make the remaining 20 mile move on our own bottoms to try and find some shelter and rest. We were able to do so by 6am and the big boat found us by 7am. At that time I was shaken up pretty bad. Mike and I made the decision that we couldn’t endure another storm that was completely unpredicted and not showing on our weather apps. As hard as it was to make the call with two days left we decided to fill the skiffs up full of fuel and make the 140 mile journey back to San Diego by ourselves. We left at 930am, suited and booted, uncertain of the ride ahead. Fortunately we had little wind and some mixed sea conditions but was able to make good time running up the line. When we came close to Todos Santos Island we both had gotten fired up again.... We decided to drop my boat on anchor and fish together for a few hours chatting about our night and what we could have done differently.

Hindsight is 20/20, time on the water is everything, and experience in difficult situations cannot be taught, untimely we made some decisions based on the situation, in the end they were based on safety and we all came out unscathed. Very thankful for our veteran skilled team on the big boat and a bad ass wing man my boy Mike Lane!
