The BTS vs. what the camera actually saw. 📸🥹

Shot on the @Hasselblad X2D II 100C and this is exactly where that 100MP medium format sensor gets me. The tiny details, the movement, the texture of the ice… you notice things in the final image that you barely saw while shooting.

Still one of my favourite parts of photography: seeing the moment again through someone else’s eyes. 🤍

The Matterhorn was studied by Horace-Bénédict de Saussure in the late eighteenth century, and was followed by other famous naturalists and artists such as John Ruskin in the 19th century. It remained unclimbed after most other major Alpine peaks had been reached, and became the subject of an international competition for the summit. The first ascent of the Matterhorn took place from Zermatt in 1865 by a group led by Edward Whymper, but a sudden fall during the descent cost the lives of four of the seven climbers. This disaster, later portrayed in many films, marked the end of the golden age of mountaineering. The north face of the Matterhorn was not climbed until 1931 and is among the three largest north faces of the Alps, known as the “Trilogy”. The west face, the highest of the four faces of the Matterhorn, was only fully climbed in 1962. More than 500 climbers are estimated to have died on the Matterhorn, making it one of the deadliest peaks in the world.
