2 years ago NHS Boy’s LAX gained a tremendous asset with Coach Dave Gallucci. Because of his dedication, effort, and leadership, boys LAX has seen tremendous improvement and success. Newton High School students will now reap the same benefits by having Coach Gallucci in the classroom come September. We welcome him to his new position in the business department and wish him and his future students much success. Coach Gallucci is already a Brave at heart. We see bigger and brighter for not only boys LAX but also the school community.

Newton Football Set to Kickoff 2022 Season

Hopes are once again high for the Newton Braves Football team as they get set to continue their winning tradition in 2022. The Braves open up on the road against Warren Hills on Sept 2nd.

The Braves are returning plenty of talent on the roster from last year’s 10-1 team. Losing outstanding QB Jack Young to graduation, extremely capable and talented Senior QB Robert McCullough takes over as the team’s starter. McCullough will have no shortage of offensive weapons around him with returning starters, seniors Thaylor Sibblies and Brayden Nolan in the backfield. Both players had outstanding seasons at the running back positions last season and are receiving interest from multiple colleges at all levels. Joining them in the backfield is senior Matt May.

Up front, the offensive line is anchored by 3 year starting center Matt McLean. Michael Melillo and Ryan Ivaldi are the guards. Pat Teets and Billy Greenhaugh are the starting tackles. Seniors Dom Ferdenzi and Garrett Wikander will see time at WR along with talented senior transfer Osso Ruiz.

Defensively, the Braves are stout up front with 3 year starter Brody Guerra leading the defensive line. Pat Teets, Billy Greenhaugh, Claudio Ibbara and Ryan Ivaldi will all see time at defensive tackle. At defensive ends will be a pair of talented defenders, senior Matt May and junior Dylan Cotter. The linebackers are Brayden Nolan and Pasquale Festa. The secondary is covered with talented athletes Demarius Posey and Deuce Edwards and the safeties are Matthew Teets and Thaylor Sibblies.

On special teams, the Braves typically possess a huge advantage over most teams with Kicker/Punter Robert McCullough. In 3 years. McCullough has made an astonishing 79 out of 84 extra point attempts and is 5 out of 6 on FG attempts, including a clutch game winner vs Lenape Valley his sophomore year. He also average 42 yards on his punts.

Braves Head Coach is Matt Parzero. Parzero is entering his 7th season at the helm. He is 54-8 the past 6 seasons with 5 straight division titles, 2 undefeated seasons and a State Sectional Championship.
