Alright time to officially reveal I did a thing...I finally got a TDI! It is a 2003 Jetta Wagon with the ALH engine and a 5 speed manual and it makes all the right noises. I traded the Audi for it straight up.

I got it non-running with the blown turbo in the picture, bought a used turbo and got it running the next day. Other than the turbo and a few odds and ends (its got 300k miles) its been an absolute blast. Its been an amazing daily driver and ive been getting 45+ mpg so even with these diesel prices its still saving me money. Still have a lot to do to make it how I want it but its a great start!
