Letting my dress shine for a post 🤍 this was an absolute labor of love and so beyond sentimental. I spent many many many hours planning, thinking, redesigning, adding, removing, and let’s not forget trialing and erroring to make this dress. The design first formed around the wedding dress I had drawn and designed in middle school when I first started sewing: a big drop waist ballgown with a big fat bow on the butt and lots of embellishments on the bodice. My childhood design was extremely outdated though so of course some modifications had to be made! I always knew I wanted pearls on this dress as they’re my birth stone and I’m always wearing pearls in some way lol so as I scoured Pinterest I fell in complete love of this pearl bodice draping and HAD to do it. The design first started as a simple satin dress with only pearl embellishments but as time went on I started tinkering with different sleeve ideas, as you’ll see in the videos, until I eventually landed on lace sleeve. At that point I just had to of course add lace detailing to the bodice as well. This dress is covered in personal pieces, starting with the pendant dangling in the center. That was my parents engagement ring that they had turned into a necklace for me. Every ounce of thread and buttons I used for this dress I inherited from my grandma. The handmade tag on the inside was gifted to me by my best friend. Lastly, I have an obscene amount of cat hair woven into this dress from them laying on it and sleeping every time I was working on it. This project, while not perfect, was by far my favorite thing I’ve ever done. Enjoy these videos I took throughout the process 🤍
