💔 HEART BROKEN 💔
.
It has been over a month since I’ve made a post on IG/FB. I’ve been in a strange daze. An incredibly important and close friend, Heidi Hanssen, passed to the spirit realm on Labor Day.
.
Heidi was simply too young, too full of love and life, nearly super human to all who knew her. To her very last moment Heidi lead bravely. She was a leader who inspired those around her to always push to their greatest potential, usually with only her radiant smile as motivation.
.
Heidi’s passing has left me stunned. Mostly unable to respond. I’ve been stuck mentally trying to process and put into words, really trying to acknowledge fully that she is gone.
.
My world has continued to push on in its own way. My life is busy and lately it’s also been very good. Yet I’ve been very jaded and removed from being fully present.
.
Heidi has been on my mind every day. I’ve been weighed down by a heavy lack of understanding. Why some get to stay and why some have to go… too soon.
.
I’ll always love you Heidi. I’ll try to be more like you every day. I’m trying to love more, smile bigger and shine brighter just like you did, every single day, until your last. And now even beyond. A true inspiration.
.
Hug your people tight. Love fiercely. ⚡️❤️⚡️

One week later and my battle wounds are nearly healed from my toughest physical endeavor yet. An enormous thank you to @hanleystrength for getting me to the starting line by preparing me both physically and mentally. And to @taimenz for lending me your board for the last month.

Conditions were anything but fun. Swell, wind, lots of chop, and I got thrown off in the washing machine slosh at the mouth of the inlet. My day was cut short at mile 9.5 along with a quarter of the prone and SUP fields who weren’t going to make the strict time limit. I’m forever grateful I ended up on a boat with @delmosports who made me incredibly proud of what I had just accomplished and had no doubt we all could have finished without the time limit.

Collectively we raised $130,000 (!!!) for individuals with spinal cord injuries and the @desatnick_foundation. Nearly SEVENTY of you donated to make me the top individual fundraiser (behind @tdesatnick). I am completely in awe of this community and what we’re capable of.

Finally, a thank you and congratulations to the Catalina Qualifying @seawerner!! She got me out for my first prone paddle over 2 miles only 8 months ago. And in classic Sara fashion she was still yelling “I love you!” as she closed in on the finish.

I have no doubt I will be returning for more of this Type II Fun. ⚡️
