🎬 Four Standout British Shorts on BBC iPlayer

A Mustard Seed (2026) - Directed by Femi Oladigbolu

Area Boy (2023) - Directed by Iggy London

2003 (2021) - Directed by Harris Dickinson

Boiling Point (2019) - Directed by Philip Barantini

Four distinctive British shorts, each showcasing the strength of emerging and independent filmmaking across the UK.

Short films can often provide the foundations for something much bigger. Two filmmakers featured here went on to develop feature films following the success of their shorts. Philip Barantini expanded Boiling Point into his acclaimed 2021 feature of the same name, while Harris Dickinson followed his directorial short 2003 with his feature directorial debut Urchin (2025).

From emerging voices to filmmakers who have successfully made the leap into feature filmmaking, these four shorts offer plenty to discover.

All four are readily available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. 🇬🇧🎬

let me take you with me to my favourite way of spending time with myself — a solo cinema date 🎬

there’s something about choosing the film, the seat, the snacks…and just being there with yourself

I made a little checklist of how to make it a special experience if you want to try it too :) more on that in my Substack 🎟️ (link in bio)

Do you take yourself on solo dates?
