Trying to release my book has been more challenging than writing it. 📖💭 Some folks support it. Others… would rather I stay silent. But this is my truth. My scars. My survival. And I’m telling it.
I was emancipated at 16. A kid forced to grow up overnight. And now that I’m telling my story, some want to erase it. But I won’t be quiet.
#RahelWhitney 🕯️—my cousin, my rock. She refused to let me skip school. Kept my GPA up. Told me stories of #TomClaborine - my grandfather.🧓🏾.She made me feel like family. Whatever her kids got—I got. 💛

#MarcusWhite and I tried to give back in the little ways we could. He connected me to Joyce Williams 🛡️, who became a protector when I needed one.

I’d run down Fish Street just to catch a ride to school with my best friend, #EbonyDudley 🚗 No bus pass, just hustle.

#JessicaWhitney 💻 let me use her computer. We talked, soul to soul. Age didn’t matter—connection did.
#DebraWhitney 🍗🏀? She made sure I ate. Bought me KFC before games when I was balling and broke.

#MargaretWalls aka “Chicken” 🚌👕—my bus driver—provided 60% of my wardrobe. That woman clothed me.

When I got outta line? #RahelWhitney called me out. When I was wildin’—stealing cars, jumping hills on University Street— She & #NieceyWinters grabbed me by my collar and pulled me back with love.

I remember one heartbreak. Not because I didn’t love right—but because I wasn’t classy enough - That led me to #RO—later #Tureka ❤️—who reminded me I was enough.

These people? They saw me. They fed me. Held me down. They’re why I tell these stories to my kids—why they walk tall, proud, and rooted in Black excellence.

I still need to reach out to Aunt Goo (mother of Lonnie Cooper and Andre Cooper). She fed us when we were starving- Yes, biological aunt, her mother and mine share the same father.

#AuntAmy would race down from St. Joseph to grab us when things went south.

Feel free to block the book if you'd like. But you can’t block these memories.
You can’t block this post. And you can’t block the truth.
