Did I take enough pictures? No.
Is the lighting on these great? Also no.
But I had fun and learned a lot. So enjoy my mini #NABJ 2026 recap. 💁🏽‍♀️😊

“This campus here, we had a lot of fun. I got #158 problems, lovin’ my school ain’t one.”

I wouldn’t have life any other way than to be Morgan made. Shoutout to the institution that gave me a chance to be great and a community to cherish through the rest of my lifetime.

With that, I raise a toast to National Treasure, #MorganStateUniversity. See some of yall soon, others later and the rest at 159.

#NABJ24 was a mixture of emotions for me this year. Not going to lie, we had a tough start (whew chile). But we persisted and still walked away with incredible resources, connections, and memories.

Attending the convention from the communications perspective was so necessary for me. I didn’t realize how large the comms community is within NABJ, and I’m super thankful to now be connected. I still have a place within the org that has supported me since college 🫶🏽

I love being able to celebrate each other in this space. Every year, we always come back together with new roles, new jobs, new ideas, and new milestones in life. I’m so thankful for my crew. The support system is unmatched.

Looking forward to Cleveland in 2025!

Ten years ago, I went on the National Association of Black Journalists website and signed up to become a student member at the suggestion of a family friend. I was on my way to Morgan State University for my first semester and knew what I wanted to do, but was not yet fully aware of the networks I’d need.

Here I am a decade later, doing the things I enjoy doing, with old friends I’ve made along the way and new friends that have been added on after my fifth NABJ Convention. I’ve talked about feeling refreshed and extra motivated after leaving previous conventions, but this 2024 iteration might be the one not the two.

I’m still figuring out where I want to be, but I do know what I want to do. And for the first time since the start of my career, I’ve found my specific tribe within this massive org to help get me where a media related professional like myself should land.

So to quote the great comedian Sydney Castillo, “My cup is full.”

Thank you, #NABJ2024.

P.S. - don’t ask me a damn thing about that Wednesday if it happened before 2pm. I was eating pancakes.
